Honeywell unveils comprehensive simulation solution For processing plants

Posted: 23 March 2005

UniSim Software and Services Can Improve Plant Performance From Process Design to Employee Training to Business Planning

Honeywell today announced the launch of its UniSim™ simulation solution, a family of software and engineering services designed to improve performance throughout the lifecycle of a processing plant. With this comprehensive simulation solution, oil and gas processors, petroleum refiners, power and chemical manufacturers can more easily capture and share process knowledge, improve plant profitability, reduce engineering costs, and maximize the return on their simulation investments.

“Simulation is a powerful and proven tool that offers users significant benefits in many areas of plant design and operations," said Tom Fiske, research director, ARC Advisory Group. "With the launch of UniSim, Honeywell improves its value proposition to its customers as well as its position in the marketplace. Performance-driven users will be able to leverage process knowledge for a wide variety of applications including process optimization.”

With the UniSim solution, process manufacturers can design and test new processes offline and train employees prior to implementing the process. Once the new process is online, the UniSim solution supports process control and optimization, performance monitoring and business planning. As part of this new offering, Honeywell has created a dedicated team that provides advanced engineering services to enhance plant performance through simulation.

UniSim solution software is built from the most robust simulation technologies available, including Honeywell’s Hyprotech® modeling software, Shadow Plant® simulation software and the OTISS™ process simulator.

“Customers can rely on Honeywell to help them create greater value from their investment in simulation at every step of the plant’s lifecycle,” said Jack Bolick, president of Honeywell Process Solutions. “With UniSim, customers can improve steady-state process design early in their plant lifecycle and reuse the process knowledge and modeling effort in the operations and optimization stages in a plant, reducing costs and increasing return on investment.”

The UniSim solution includes the following:

  • The UniSim Design Suite, which includes the latest release of HYSYS® software, offers steady-state and dynamic simulation, design, performance monitoring, optimization and business planning for oil & gas production, gas processing, petroleum refining and chemical industries.
  • The UniSim Operations Suite, which provides highly accurate, multi-function dynamic simulation to improve operating capabilities and enhance staff skills.
  • The UniSim Optimization Suite, which ensures responsiveness to changes in business demands through close linkages with planning, scheduling, and management functions.
  • The UniSim Dynamic Engineering Studies Group, a dedicated Honeywell service team that evaluates the impact of proposed process-design changes on future plant performance.

The UniSim solution extends the capabilities of Honeywell’s Experion™ Process Knowledge System (PKS) by improving its ability to gather data throughout the plant, and coupling it with process knowledge embedded in process simulation models. UniSim software is also designed to integrate with Invensys, Siemens, Yokogawa, Emerson and ABB advanced control and operator training systems.
