Pipeline Magazine marches to a resounding century
Posted: 04 April 2005
Pipeline Magazine is proud to announce that it is the 100th issue of the magazine. Serving the oil and gas industry, for close to nine years, with commitment and a pursuit of excellence, the magazine has tirelessly presented news and views that matter most.
As a testimony to this growth, Reflex Publishing, the publisher of Pipeline magazine launched Offshore Arabia magazine, in association with Recso, Regional Clean Seas Organisation, late last year. Though in its infancy, Offshore Arabia has already started tasting success with its readers, who are primarily from the shipping, marine and offshore sectors.
The magazine has also had the unique honour of recognising and rewarding excellence in the energy sector, through its famous “Excellence in Energy Awards”, which is now in its 5th year.
“The Oil and Gas industry has grown immensely in these nine years,” says Eileen Michael, Publisher, Pipeline, when asked about the industry in the last decade.
Michael shares with the readers, the trails and tribulations that went into making Pipeline Magazine, what it is today
What were the initial challenges that you had to face in launching an oil and gas magazine in the region?
The biggest challenge was getting information from the companies in the region. It took years of brand building, persuasion and careful use of company information to gain the respect and trust that Pipeline has in the industry today.
Was the response what you expected?
It has given me great pleasure in seeing the magazine grow into an international brand, it is today. The industry has stood behind the magazine, since its inception in 1996. They were very supportive in allowing Pipeline to be the voice of the Middle East’s energy sector and today we are pleased to say we still hold that very special position.
In a region, where most number of magazines is launched and closed almost immediately, what would you attribute your longevity to?
Well, that is a very fair comment, as I have personally seen at least ten magazines come and go in the energy sector in the last decade.
Reflex Publishing made a commitment to the energy sector in the region, to bring to them a world class publication written for the Middle East from the Middle East. I think our success lies in our understanding of the region by being in the region long enough to gain knowledge of the industry’s demands and needs.
It has taken us years of working with the Middle East’s energy companies to give this industry sector a vehicle to take their news internationally from the region.
Is Reflex Publishing diversifying into other fields or do you have any recent developments in the company?
Yes, we are diversifying because we are situated in the Middle East and we cater easily and quickly to the demands of our clients. With this in mind, we have launched Pipeline Energy Training.
We now offer comprehensive training courses for the oil and gas industry. The courses range from grass root basics to highly technical seminars for mission critical applications. We offer both in house and open courses on a variety of topics.
You have also recently launched Offshore Arabia Magazine, could you comment on its launch?
Offshore Arabia has been received by the industry as a valuable tool to reach the upstream markets. Launched in November to support RECSO (The Regional Clean Seas organization), the magazine covers a vast number of topics spanning environmental issues and policies, technologies, infrastructure issues and members news.
The magazine has been formed as a support arm for the organisation. It is supported by the 13 strong members of the organisation who are chiefly the regions’ national oil companies.
Finally what do you see as the future for Reflex Publishing?
Well, with the new magazine launches, the energy training programmes, hosting the 5th Excellence in Energy Awards in Doha this year, the all famous Middle East Oil Barons Ball 2005 and the huge success of our oil and gas golf tournaments, I think we will be around for a long time to come. After all, we are a tough act to follow!!
