India imports Qatari crude
Posted: 18 April 2005
India plans to buy up to 1 million tonnes a year of crude from Qatar for a state refiner and wants higher imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to boost ties with the OPEC producer, India's oil minister said.
Mani Shankar Aiyar said crude oil would be imported by the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals, a subsidiary of state-run exploration firm Oil and Natural Gas Corp.
"We have agreed in principle that MRPL will pick up 0.5-1.0 million tonnes of Qatari crude. Commercial negotiations are to be initiated," Aiyar said on the sidelines of a news conference but did not give more details.
