New-Look Caspian Conference Proving A Draw

Posted: 25 April 2005

The 12th International Caspian Oil & Gas Exhibition and conference – Caspian Oil and Gas 2005 – being held in Baku , Azerbaijan 7-10 June, features a reformatted, repositioned and highly topical conference, which is already proving a great draw to speakers, delegates and sponsors alike

The traditional opening ceremony, led by H.E. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and with participation by Energy Ministers of countries involved with, or interested in, Azerbaijan ’s oil and gas industry, takes place in the exhibition hall on the event’s opening morning - 7 June.  The new-look conference will be held 8 and 9 June at the nearby Hyatt Regency Hotel.

Actively supported by the Azerbaijan Ministry of Industry and Energy and SOCAR, the state oil company of Azerbaijan , the Caspian Oil & Gas 2005 Conference is currently sponsored by BP, Bos Shelf, Caspian Energy Centre, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, Michael Wilson & Partners and Salans with several other well known names finalising their involvement at present

“We’ve taken a fresh look at the conference format and implemented ITE’s business model, which has proved so successful in many other countries around the FSU such as Kazakhstan – KIOGE, Russia – MIOGE, to the Caspian Oil & Gas Conference in order to create the ideal platform for discussion, senior level networking for the players in the Caspian oil and gas industry,” explains Conference Director, Matthew Moss.  “The conference programme is coming together nicely and we already have more than two hundred and fifty delegates registered – proof, if proof was needed, that a fresh look at the conference format has come at the right time!”

Day by day – the new-look conference
The conference will open with a plenary session looking at Strategic Development of the Caspian Sea’s Oil & Gas Reserves with senior energy figures from the Russian Federation , Kazakhstan , Iran , Turkey , UK and USA taking part.

Attention then turns to Caspian Exploration & Production with scene setting presentations from senior representatives of regional national oil companies setting out strategic issues; before, in the next quarter-day session, the operators look at the topic in greater detail.

The final session of Day One will look at Regional Investment & Sustainable Development drawing on the experience of those organisations actively involved with finance in the region.

“Transportation of oil and gas is a key issue in the region, so it is not surprising that we are taking half a day of the conference for Caspian Sea Oil and Gas Transportation,” says Matthew Moss.  “In the first session on Day Two of the Caspian Oil & Gas Conference there will be presentations from organisations involved with BTC (the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline); then in the second session of the day we will be spreading the net wider and looking at views and transportation plans from the wider region.

“Other sessions on Day Two are Caspian Service Sector involving presentations from contracting companies active in the region; and Corporate Social Responsibility.

New for 2005
A trio of social events are part of the new-look 2005 Caspian Oil and Gas Conference agenda – there will be a Gala Reception on 7 June for delegates, speakers and exhibitors; on 8 June a reception for all speakers and delegates will be held at the Yacht Club; and there will be a Gala Dinner on 9 June.

Conference proceedings including speeches, speaker biographies and photographs in English and Azeri will be produced for the first time. These proceedings will be available at the time of the event.  A delegate fee covers attendance at the conference, all lunch and coffee breaks, social events and full conference material.  The fee is £1250 for the first delegate and £1,100 thereafter; there is a reduced delegate rate for exhibiting companies.

Exhibition faring well
The exhibition is attracting exhibitors from all over the world, including large national group pavilions from the UK , France , Germany , Italy , and Russia .  “We noticed a surge of interest in exhibiting once oil production began from the Central Azeri development in mid-February,” explains Caspian Oil & Gas 2005 Project Director, Julia Romanenko.  “Over 90% of the space in the show is firmly booked and national and international companies have options on much of the rest of the space.  We would urge any organisations interested in exhibiting to contact either our UK or Azerbaijani office with speed!”
