Extra Light Oil Field Discovered
Posted: 16 May 2005
Saudi Aramco has discovered a new oil field, the Halfa Field, in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia.
The Halfa-1 well was tested on April 20, flowing 6,000 barrels per day of Arabian Extra Light crude oil (36 degrees API gravity) and 4.2 million cubic feet of gas per day from an open-hole test conducted over the Hanifa Reservoir at a depth of 9,687 feet.
The wellhead flowing pressure was 1,230 psi on a 48/64 inch choke.
Based on test data analysis, the well is expected to flow at a significantly higher rate under normal production completion. Drilling is continuing to evaluate the well's deeper gas objectives.
The Halfa-1 well is about 320 kilometers south of Dhahran and 280 kilometers southeast of Riyadh.
Abd Allah S. Al-Saif, senior vice president of Exploration and Producing, praised the company's teams from Exploration, Petroleum Engineering and Drilling for their expertise and dedication in building on the company's success as a reliable energy supplier.
