Expro Welcomes SPE President
Posted: 13 June 2005
More than 40 young engineers were treated to a presentation by the world president of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Giovanni Paccaloni, at the Aberdeen base of leading oilfield service company Expro International Group PLC (“Expro Group” or “Expro”) on Thursday (June 9).
Paccaloni, who is a senior advisor at Eni Agip’s headquarters in Milan, outlined to the group the benefits of joining SPE, including the potential for achieving personal goals and opportunities for members to expand their knowledge and networking contacts within the industry.
His visit to Expro was organised as part of a three-day tour of Scotland, which also included trips to Heriot Watt University, Dundee University and the Robert Gordon University.
The tour ended with a dinner at the Marcliffe at Pitfodels Hotel, organised by the Aberdeen section of the SPE to mark 30 years of oil and gas production in the North Sea.
Paccaloni said: “I have always been very impressed with the fact that SPE gives engineering professionals personal development opportunities as well as the chance to practice leadership and interpersonal skills. If you are an active member of SPE, you can get a lot in return.”
Alan Dick, Expro Group marketing manager - subsea, and incoming chairman of the local SPE branch, said: “It was a great honour for us to host Mr Paccaloni on what was an extremely intensive tour of the country, and I’m sure those who attended his presentation will benefit from his wise words.”
“The SPE really opens up the world for young engineers. It creates fantastic global networking opportunities with key industry figures and enhances the breadth and depth of knowledge by information sharing on a range of projects and technologies.”
“With more than 80,000 members globally and 2,000 locally, we are in a strong position but we need to maintain our strength by continuing to attract the industry’s young blood.”
