UMC Appoint Agent In Germany
Posted: 27 June 2005
UMC has formally appointed an exclusive German agent - VFR Marine Services GMBH.
VFR Marine Services, headed up by Fred Franken, was established in 1997, essentially to provide technical services to the marine industry, thus meeting the demands of the German ship owners. Focusing initially on engine spares and safety, as time went by VFR increased their portfolio of services to cover coatings, and now underwater engineering.
The manager of UMC’s Rotterdam office, Jean Paul Engels, has recently carried out a joint marketing trip to Hamburg and Bremen with Fred Franken. During this trip it became clear that VFR are well pitched to assist UMC within Germany , and that UMC, currently experiencing a dramatic growth of custom from German owners, were an ideal addition to VFR’s Portfolio. VFR provides spares and services to approximately 95 German owners, looking after around 2000 vessels.
UMC have been delighted with the steady growth of German customers over the last few years, and have no doubt that the owners are more than ready to embrace the untraditional approach and extra portfolio of underwater engineering work that UMC offers.
UMC’s Marketing Director, Peter Stevenson, confirms that the initial feedback from new German customers has been beyond expectations, mirroring the comments from the owners themselves. UMC’s Rotterdam office has been inundated with technically demanding repair operations, all completed to customer’s satisfaction, and all worthy of unsolicited complimentary feed back. The scope of extended new custom has also extended to UMC’s Plymouth office, and work has also already been carried out at UMC’s newest location, Portland Port UK.
