Labtech Celebrates Double Order For Caspian

Labtech Modular Engineering, part of the ABZ Group, is celebrating a £200,000 plus double contract for two cabins in the Caspian.
Labtech was commissioned by Maritime Hydraulics AS, a company within  AkerKvaerner, to detail design and build a drillers’ control cabin for the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) full field development, phase 3, in the Caspian Sea. The cabin is based on the design and specifications by Maritime Hydraulics AS.
The company, which is recognised as a specialist in the design, manufacture, repair, refurbishment and hire of high quality containerised and skid mounted modules and welding habitats, also secured a contract with Schlumberger to design and build a high specification workshop module, purpose-built for the Caspian’s environmental and operating conditions.
The two contracts represent the latest activity by Labtech in an 11-year history of working in the Caspian, and the pressurised (safe by ventilation) drillers’ control cabin is the fourth module to be supplied by the company for the ACG development. The cabin’s features include laminated and toughened safety glass windows, electric window wash/wipe system, raised access floor and a false ceiling for services. The 11.5 tonne 22 square metre cabin was detail designed and built within 16 weeks.
Labtech director of sales and marketing Dave Mair said: "Labtech has built up a strong position in the Caspian over the years and we will look to enhance this as we realise our commitment to international growth.
"We also have long-standing relationships with both Maritime Hydraulics AS and Schlumberger, and would look to strengthen these in the future."
Senior Architect Carl Erik Upsahl of Maritime Hydraulics AS said: "We have been very pleased with all the cabins Labtech has delivered. Their products are of a very high quality and we are satisfied that they do an excellent job."
