Larsen & Toubro Electromech, Oman, an associate company of Larsen & Toubro, India's largest engineering and construction conglomerate, has won a contract from Petroleum Development Oman.
The $37.15 million contract is for the revamping and upgrading of transmission lines and substations at its oilfields in central Oman.
The order involves the construction of 293 kilometres of 132 kV overhead transmission lines and substations to expand the existing electrical network. The work is scheduled to be completed by February 2007.
Larsen & Toubro Electromech (LTEM), formerly known as Zubair Kilpatrik, is a recent acquisition of L&T as part of its efforts to accelerate business in the Middle East, the report added.
The company was a unit of Zubair Corporation, L&T's joint venture partners in Larsen & Toubro ( Oman) (LTO), which has been operating for more than a decade in Oman. LTEM, in which L&T has a shareholding of 65 per cent, has four key business units MEP services, electrical and instrumentation for oil and gas, engineering and maintenance contracts for electrical and instrumentation, and facilities management.
It will also complement and supplement LTO in projects involving facilities management and building utility works.
