Oil Company Selects Schlumberger to Develop an Enterprise-Wide Information
Solution
Posted: 7 January 2003
Comprehensive solution provides open access, streamlines E&P
workflows and supports knowledge sharing to improve business decisions
Schlumberger announced that it has been selected by Kuwait Oil
Company (KOC) to build an enterprise-wide integrated information
solution, with secure, single point portal access. The solution
will be provided via open access to the GeoQuest software and services,
Schlumberger Information Solutions (SIS) domain expertise and SchlumbergerSema
business and knowledge management consulting. The five-year agreement
builds on the existing strategic information management agreement
between SIS and KOC.
Under the agreement, KOC staff have full access to GeoQuest exploration
and production (E&P) software covering the entire oil and gas
life cycle—from reservoir characterization and economic modeling
to reservoir management—in an integrated environment, as well
as on-site technical support and project consulting services. With
access to multiple data repositories and collaboration tools, users
can immediately obtain software and pertinent work process information
and tools, along with invaluable corporate knowledge, to efficiently
manage information. This unparalleled combination of easy access
and depth of information streamlines E&P workflows and knowledge
sharing, leading to improved business decisions.
“Our objective is for KOC to develop a knowledge-based culture—one
in which information is integrated, easily shared and readily accessible.
When all KOC engineers and geoscientists can leverage our enterprise
information, better business decisions will be made more effectively,”
said Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki, KOC deputy chairman and executive assistant
managing director for Exploration and Production Development. “These
solutions will also enable us to implement best practices based
on lessons learned, which will result in improved operational competence.
This is how we will realize maximum efficiencies. ”
The integrated information solution will be supported by SIS domain-specific
and client-personalized information lifecycle solutions, supporting
seismic, well log, wellbore, production, sample and interpreted
subsurface model information. Access to data and tools is provided
through collaborative, customizable software, domain expertise and
DecisionPoint* technology, a personalized Web-based solution that
takes full advantage of global connectivity.
“KOC has clearly demonstrated its intent to leverage technology
to take a leadership position in the oil and gas industry, and SIS
is pleased to collaborate with KOC on this initiative,” said
Ihab Toma, president of SIS. “It is noteworthy that KOC understands
that technology is the enabler—that the real force behind
moving to an integrated information management system lies in creating
a knowledge sharing culture.”
