Tubular Services Awarded Key Contract by Schlumberger Servicos de
Petroleo

Contract Calls for Range of Tubular Services to be Carried Out
on Albacore Leste Field Offshore Brazil
ABERDEEN, Scotland — BJ Tubular Services
today announced that it has been awarded a contract by Schlumberger
Servicos de Petroleo Ltda to provide a range of tubular well services
offshore Brazil on behalf of Petrobras. The multi-million dollar
three-year contract provides for the running of all completions
and sand screens on 20 wells on Petrobras’ Albacore Leste
Field development.
Located approximately 125 kilometres offshore Rio de Janeiro state
in water depths ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 meters, each of the
wells will be horizontal with sub-sea completions. BJ Tubular Services
will run 6-5/8” production tubing of 13% chrome steel. To
ensure that the operation is completed safely and efficiently, BJ
Tubular Services will use the full Chromemaster™ minimal marking
CRA non-ferrous tubular handling package: Chromemaster power tongs,
specially modified screen liner running tongs, slips and support
table, in addition to the Loadmaster™ single joint compensator
system and the Dopemaster™ pipe compound applicator, which
prevents excess thread compounds from entering the pipe and clogging
the screens.
Special VAM EIS rental drillpipe with accessories will also be
supplied by BJ Tubular Services that will be used for both well
clean-up strings and screen/completion landing strings, as part
of its complete service package. In addition to running completions
and sand screens, sister division BJ Completion Assembly Services
will provide onshore completion assembly services to Schlumberger
using BJ’s transportable Series 2000 Bucking Unit with Chromemaster
Jaws. The Series 2000 unit is fully transportable, allowing work
to be carried out at the customer’s facilities, which reduces
costs and improves efficiency.
Services to Commence in March
BJ Tubular Services will begin operating on behalf of Schlumberger
Servicos de Petroleo Ltda in March 2003, with all related services
being provided by BJ Tubular Services, including dedicated personnel
and state-of-the-art equipment based in the division’s facilities
in Macaé, Brazil.
