Posted: 3 March 2003

Emirates National Oil Company Ltd (ENOC) LLC will host the 11th Middle East Petroleum and Gas Conference (MPGC), to be held in Dubai from April 13-15, 2003.

The conference, under the patronage of H.H. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Defence Minister, is the flagship event of Middle East Petroleum and Gas Week, which will run from April 12. The conference is themed: ‘Middle East Oil: Economics, Politics and Strategies For Success – Striking The Right Balance.’

MPGC organisers, The Conference Connection Inc., have confirmed that the opening session’s Ministerial Panel will be addressed by H.E. Obaid bin Saif Al-Nasri, UAE Minister for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, H.E. Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, Qatar’s Minister for Energy & Industry and Chairman of Qatar Petroleum, The Honourable Murray Smith, Petroleum Minister for Alberta, Canada and H.R. Dr. Alvaro Silva-Calderon, OPEC’s Secretary General.

“As a leading player in the Middle East’s upstream and downstream sectors, ENOC is the ideal host of this strategic event,” said Hussain Sultan, Group Chief Executive and Board Member, ENOC, who will co-chair MPGC 2003. “Bringing together industry decision-makers from throughout the region and beyond, gives us all an opportunity to identify challenges and strategise solutions.”

“The oil industry and its economics make it difficult to project the future. The industry is in constant flux, the ground rules are forever changing. But plan we must, as any successful business has to do. In our industry, we have to be flexible enough to change plans to cope with current developments. MPGC will be the most up-to-date industry forum in these extremely challenging times.”

A special MPGC highlight will be a keynote address by Mr David J. O’Reilly, Chairman and CEO of Chevron Texaco.

Other speakers include: Mr Gwyn Morgan, President & CEO of EnCana, Mr Philip Aiken, CEO of BHP Billiton Petroleum, Mr Nader Sultan, Deputy Chairman and CEO of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and Mr PMS Prasad, Group President of Indian oil giant, Reliance Industries Limited.

Meanwhile two senior ENOC management representatives Kamal Said, Chief Operating Officer of ENOC International Sales LLC and Khalid Al Huraimel, Manager – Sales & Marketing, ENOC Lubricants, will have key roles in the specialised two-day conference for the lubricants industry on April 16 and 17.

As an integral part of Middle East Petroleum and Gas Week, the conference will explore the outlook for East of Suez lubricants and base-oils.

Kamal Said is to chair all the conference sessions, while Khalid Al Huraimel, is listed among 12 leading industry speakers and will deliver a presentation on the UAE lubricants market.

Over 700 key decision makers from national oil companies, oil majors and independents from more than 50 countries are expected to attend events during Middle East Petroleum and Gas Week, in addition to nearly 100 oil industry speakers, chairmen and course directors.
