Tubular Services hammers demand
Posted: 12 March 2003
ABERDEEN, Scotland — BJ Tubular Services
today announced that it continues to experience a rise in demand
for hydraulic hammer conductor driving services. During the past
year, the hammer services specialist has successfully completed,
and been awarded, a number of contracts to provide hammer and related
well services in Europe.
A contract from Maersk Olie og Gas AS of Denmark requires BJ to
provide a range of services for its assets in the Danish sector
of the North Sea. In addition to hammer conductor driving services,
conductor running and make-up services and conductor cold-cutting
services, BJ is also managing rental chasers on behalf of Maersk
Olie og Gas AS. The contract is being supported from BJ Tubular
Services’ bases in Esbjerg, Denmark and Great Yarmouth, England.
BJ has been running casing and tubing, driving conductors and supplying
PCE (Primary Cementation Equipment) products to Maersk in Europe
since the early 1990s.
Relationship with Wintershall Noordzee BV-Holland Continues
On the Continent, long-time BJ Tubular Services client, Wintershall
Noordzee BV, has retained the hammer conductor-driving specialist
to carry out a range of services in Holland from BJ’s support
bases in Den Helder, Holland and Great Yarmouth. These services
include hammer conductor driving, conductor running and make-up
services, in addition to welding and hot cutting services. The two-year
contract, which commenced this summer, includes two consecutive
one-year options to renew. The recent contract award further underscores
the ongoing relationship shared between the two companies since
1998.
First Operation for European Marine Contractors Completed
Recently, BJ Tubular Services successfully completed its
first hammer services contract for European Marine Contractors Ltd.
The underwater pile driving and pile handling services were carried
out in the Southern North Sea by the BJ hammer services division
based in Great Yarmouth. Further projects scheduled to commence
in 2003 are currently in the planning stages.
“With our ongoing efforts to further strengthen our market
position, and expand BJ’s hammer services market globally,
we are extremely pleased to be working on behalf of each of these
valued clients, to provide them with effective hammer conductor
driving, and related well services in Europe,”said Neil Gordon,
general manager of BJ Tubular Services. “I attribute our success
in winning these valuable contracts to the effectiveness and safety
of the services delivered by the IHC Hydrohammer, and to the experience
and commitment of the hammer services division,” he added.
Hydrohammer Services: Efficient, Safe and Cost-effective
BJ Tubular Services uses a state-of-the-art hydraulic pile
driving system known as the IHC Hydrohammer to drive conductors
and pipe into the earth to create a foundation for a new oil or
gas well. As it is designed for driving piles on or offshore, the
Hydrohammer can also be used to efficiently drive large piles for
the purpose of constructing buildings or bridges. Its competitive
advantage lies within the outstanding quality of the system, and
the experienced team that operates it. The Hydrohammer delivers
precise, concentrated blows to the piling column, driving piles
deeper and faster than any other. This results in an extremely efficient
conductor driving operation - with a 100% efficiency ratio - saving
the customer time and money. In addition, the process is extremely
safe. The Hydrohammer is equipped with a safety feature that automatically
shuts the system down should a pile penetrate ahead of the hammer,
blow energy is set too high or the system is positioned incorrectly.
BJ Hammer Services Celebrates 7th Year
It has been seven years since BJ Tubular Services performed its
first-ever hydraulic hammer conductor driving service in the Netherlands.
Since then, the division has gone on to deliver more than 425 single-slot
hydraulic hammer conductor and caisson driving operations world-wide.
After establishing its reputation for hammer conductor services
with projects in Holland, BJ Tubular expanded to continental Europe
with a series of projects in Denmark, closely followed by further
operations in Africa and Brazil where exploration and production
activity has increased significantly since the 1980s. During the
past seven years, BJ Tubular Services has also carried out hammer
conductor services operations in Latin America, India, Malaysia,
Vietnam, Indonesia, Trinidad and the Middle East.
Historically, areas exhibiting the greatest demand from BJ Tubular
Services for hammer services are Denmark, Holland, the United Kingdom,
Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and the Asia-Pacific Region. “Demand
for our hammer services has continued to rise in direct correlation
with the level of exploration and production being undertaken, whether
in mature regions such as the North Sea and Continental Europe or
in emerging markets such as West Africa, Brazil and Trinidad,”
said Andy Penman, BJ Tubular Services hammer services manager.
