Schlumberger
Water Services launches new technologies
Posted: 24 March 2003
Dubai — Schlumberger Water Services, a leading
international provider in aquifer management services, announced
the launch of two cutting-edge technologies for the Middle East
at WETEX 2003.
The first of these is the company’s monitoring services that
specialize in the design and deployment of groundwater monitoring
instruments and networks. Both single zone and multi-zone wells
can be instrumented.
These systems form an integral part of any comprehensive groundwater
management program that aims at maintaining the quality and quantity
of underground water for sustainable use.
Robust instrumentation is provided which automates the collection
of parameters such as groundwater level, temperature, conductivity
and dissolved oxygen. In addition, truly representative formation
samples can be collected using a state-of-the-art multi-level monitoring
modular system.
This system provides a cost effective solution for sample collection
from multiple aquifers and provides high-resolution data from hydro
geological tests.
The second service addresses the need for accurately mapping and
pinpointing underground utility lines and services.
“This has long been on a wish list for various municipalities,
utility companies and others,” said Nauman Rashid, Manager,
Middle East and Asia, Schlumberger Water Services. “Now a
fit-for-purpose innovation is making this possible. StreetLOG®
from Schlumberger uses new Ground-Penetrating imaging Radar (GPiR)
technology to produce precise, three-dimensional images of the buried
assets in an environmentally friendly, non-destructive manner.”
The service can locate and image conductive and non-conductive
utilities, vertically and horizontally, usually within the accuracy
of a few centimeters in any direction.
StreetLOG thus reduces the risks and consequences of inadvertent
damage to utility lines during construction or renovation projects
by providing clear and accurate images of subsurface features.
Schlumberger Limited is a global technology services company consisting
