OPS Group appoints Cerys Johns to key marketing post

Posted: 30 March 2003

Appointment Signals Way Forward for Former OPS (North Sea) Ltd

ABERDEEN, Scotland — OPS (North Sea) Ltd, a leading provider of highly qualified, specialist personnel to the international oil and gas industry, today announced two significant corporate developments as part of its current strategic initiative to expand globally and to offer improved integrated services to its clients world-wide.

OPS (North Sea) Ltd Announces Company Name Change
Known as OPS (North Sea) Ltd since it was founded in 1988, the Aberdeen-based company will now operate under the name, OPS Group Ltd.

The decision to change the company name from OPS (North Sea) Ltd to OPS Group Ltd was made for several reasons. Since its establishment 15 years ago, OPS (North Sea) Ltd has rapidly become recognised throughout the industry as a leading provider of a wide range of experienced oilfield personnel.

“Over time, we have expanded our portfolio in response to market demand for additional disciplines, including experienced FPSO management teams and dedicated teams of wireline, coiled tubing, commissioning, pipeline and nitrogen operations specialists. We are now a significant provider of contract staff, with ever-increasing man days billed monthly,” said Steve Pryor, Managing Director of OPS Group Ltd.

“With our additional experience in recruiting permanent staff, training and competence, OPS has evolved to the point where we offer a truly comprehensive range of personnel with a broad cross-section of disciplines. Coupled with the fact that we have provided oil and gas industry clients with specialist personnel on every continent, it became apparent that it would be beneficial to restructure the company in order to offer improved service to our clients around the world. In keeping with our plans to dramatically grow the company globally, the company has been re-named OPS Group Ltd,” he added.

Johns Appointed to Drive Marketing Campaign to Raise Awareness
In an effort to increase awareness of the company’s capabilities and experience in recruitment, training and employment, OPS Group Ltd has promoted Cerys Johns to the newly created post of Head of Marketing and Media Relations. In her new role, Johns, 27, oversees the marketing department and all associated OPS Group Ltd marketing communications activities, including advertising, media relations, e-marketing, production of communications materials and corporate website redesign and maintenance.

OPS Group Redesigns Website
Currently, Johns’ primary focus is on the company’s new and upgraded website located at www.opsgrp.com.

“As OPS ramps up its plans to further expand internationally, we are keenly aware that the company website is the industry’s ‘window to our world.’

It is a primary communications point through which we recruit temporary and permanent personnel in the UK and around the world. Therefore, it’s critical that it be extremely responsive, and accurately reflect the range of our capabilities,” said Johns. “As a result of the recent upgrade and relaunch, the OPS website more effectively illustrates the company’s track record in providing major operators with qualified and experienced personnel to work on their behalf. Whether it’s a well engineer for a development offshore Norway, a coiled tubing drilling crew in Malaysia, or a crew with a variety of disciplines to work on an FPSO in Equatorial Guinea, OPS has the resources and expertise to meet their needs,” she added.

According to Johns, her main objective is to dramatically increase awareness of the company’s capabilities globally, and to continue to build upon long-term client relationships through more effective and consistent communications. “The new website, our new media outreach programme, e-marketing activities and plans to exhibit at Offshore Europe will go a long way towards achieving this objective,” said Johns.

Johns holds an HND Degree in Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations from Aberdeen College that she earned in 2000. She is a member of the Grampian Public Relations Group, a professional association for professional communicators in the Aberdeen area. Born in Brunei to an oil industry family, Johns lived in Holland and England before settling in Aberdeen in 1983. She is based at the company’s headquarters in Aberdeen, and reports to Steve Pryor, Managing Director of OPS Group Ltd.
