Gulf
Business Machines appoints new Director of Professional Services
Posted: 31 March 2003
Gulf Business Machines (GBM), IBM’s Sole Distributor of Products
and services in the Gulf, has announced the appointment of Jim Massey
to head the company’s Professional Services Division and drive
business development in the very competitive IT services market
in the region.
Massey, a Canadian national with over 25 years experience in the
IT sector, has worked in professional services since 1985, specialising
in consultancy and business development for retail, banking, criminal
justice and social security. His high profile customers include
ASDA stores, the Home Office, the Department of Social Security,
and the British Airports Authority in the UK. He previously worked
for IBM in the Middle East as the Practice Leader for professional
services.
The prevailing view of IT professional services in this region
tends to focus on the technology and includes a combination of project
management, systems integration and training. Massey, who has definite
views on the new direction for Professional Services in GBM, aims
to grow this share of the market whilst satisfying the needs of
the company’s present client base as the market changes.
He explains: "Delivering technology change is well understood
and GBM and its customers are well positioned to do this. However
our customers are now acquiring IT systems in order to change the
ways in which they run and re-engineer their businesses, and this
brings process, organisation and culture change into the equation.
And leveraging these elements with technology change will deliver
real value. The more these elements interact, and the faster the
rate of interaction, the more rapid and more beneficial is the change
to our customer's business."
Jim Massey intends to do something different in his new role: “The
market has changed, and we must increase the people and business
focus of our current services offerings to provide end to end solutions
to our customer’s needs.”
