Qatar energy minister chairs Dolphin's third DPSA managament committee meeting

Posted: 1 April 2003

Committee Updated on Dolphin Technical Achievements, New Developments Onshore and Offshore

Abu Dhabi, UAE — The Qatar Minister of Energy & Industry,
HE Mr Abdullah Hamad Al Attiyah, chaired the third meeting of the Development & Production Sharing Agreement (DPSA) Management Committee for the Dolphin Project in Doha on March 27.

The CEO of Dolphin Energy Limited, Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, said afterwards: “We had a particularly good meeting. Dolphin is now moving ahead with substantial technical developments in Qatar, and it was encouraging to receive the personal support and positive cooperation of the Minister.”

The DPSA Management Committee, which meets regularly, is chaired by the Minister himself, and reviews all Dolphin developments within Qatar. The meeting was also attended by Dolphin Energy executive vice presidents and senior officials from the Ministry of Energy & Industry and Qatar Petroleum.

The Dolphin Gas Project involves the development of natural gas reserves from Qatar’s offshore North Field, their processing onshore at Ras Laffan – and transportation by pipeline of a minimum 2 billion cubic feet a day (bcf/d) of natural gas to the UAE from 2006.

Mr Al Sayegh added that DPSA Management Committee meetings gave Dolphin Energy the opportunity to brief the Minister and his team on the extensive project activity currently under way. The Committee also reviewed and approved the project budget for the year 2003.

“The pace of the project’s development continues at an ever increasing rate. It is vital to the project that we coordinate every technical aspect with His Excellency and with our colleagues at Qatar Petroleum — and that we receive their constructive feed-back on the many complex issues involved.”

Dolphin Energy Limited
Dolphin Energy Limited (DEL) was created to develop substantial energy projects throughout the GCC. Its objective is to create long-term economic wealth and new business opportunities for citizens, far into the future.

DEL’s major strategic initiative, the Dolphin Project, involves the production and processing of natural gas from Qatar’s North Field, and transportation of the dry gas by pipeline to the UAE, beginning in 2006. Dolphin Energy’s first energy initiative comes on stream in 4th Quarter 2003, when DEL’s natural gas pipeline from Al Ain to Fujairah is inaugurated. This pipeline will supply the Union Water and Electricity Company in Fujairah – initially with natural gas from Oman, and subsequently with Dolphin gas from Qatar.
