Paradigm
adds Geosteering Functionality to Geolog
Posted: 7 April 2003
Real-time geosteering and interpretation further enhance
the industry’s leading log management and petrophysics system
London, UK — Paradigm, the premier provider
of advanced petroleum geoscience and drilling technology to the
oil and gas E&P industry, has announced the introduction of
its geosteering module for the industry-leading Geolog log management
and petrophysics system.
Geolog geosteering facilitates the profitable exploitation of thin
hydrocarbon-bearing zones, thereby maximizing pay from expensive
horizontal wells.
Full support for the emerging WITSML standard for real-time data
management allows the Geolog geosteering module to be used at the
rigsite or the office, for effective and timely decision-making.
Geolog geosteering provides the geosteering expert with the ability
to effectively model logging while drilling (LWD) data so that the
stratigraphic position of the well may be determined, thereby ensuring
accurate wellbore steering decisions.
This enables wells to be drilled in complex zones, with minimal
tortuosity and maximum pay.
The module also links Geolog with Paradigm’s Sysdrill? drilling
engineering solutions, for the integration of well trajectory analysis
and planning.
This allows the geosteering module to model ahead of the bit, ensuring
that steering decisions are fast and effective, thereby maximizing
the value of the well.
Richard Pelling, Geolog Product Manager, explained, “Geosteering
with LWD data has traditionally been a specialized and proprietary
rig site service. The addition of geosteering to Geolog provides
a powerful interpretation capability that integrates the operator’s
G&G and drilling workflows. Geolog geosteering unlocks the true
potential of today’s challenging horizontal wells.”
Paradigm also offers integrated well planning and geosteering solutions
at the seismic and reservoir scale using its Sysdrill DirectorGeo
well planning and engineering system, with 3D visualization through
its VoxelGeo volume-based seismic interpretation solution and Reservoir
Navigator 3D visualization canvas.
Geosteering was demonstrated at the Paradigm booth during the SPE/IADC
Drilling Conference in Amsterdam on 19-21 February, 2003.
