Shell at MEOS 2003

Posted: 1 June 2003

Shell's leading technologies can play a pivotal role in developing the Middle East's oil and gas industry, one of the world's most important petroleum conferences will hear in June.

Delegates at the Middle East Oil and Gas Show 2003 (MEOS) in Bahrain from 9-12 June will learn how Shell's latest technical breakthroughs can be applied to operations in their own countries.

Shell will have a major presence at MEOS 2003 with 16 leading technologists presenting technical papers at the conference and a large stand in the adjoining exhibition.

The show, expected to draw thousands to the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre, is considered one of the most important events in the oil and gas industry calendar. It is held biennially and attracts key industry players from the Middle East and beyond including representatives from governments, national and international oil companies.

Dave Stuart, external affairs manager for Shell's Middle East Business Relations team, said the Shell stand at the exhibition would feature mini-presentations by Shell experts on technologies of particular relevance to the Middle East. "We will have information on a host of different subjects including Gas To Liquids, 4D seismic and the underbalanced drilling technique which enables higher rates of production. There will be a special section on monodiameter wells which allow deeper drilling while decreasing waste products and saving time and money."

The Shell stand will also contain information on how Shell is contributing to the Middle Eastern societies in which it operates. One of the projects featured is a programme to 'green the desert' by using water produced from oil and gas reservoirs for irrigation.

Shell's presence at MEOS 2003 will also feature a lighter side. The stand includes a Ferrari F1 car with a pit stop challenge where teams can compete against each other to be the fastest to change a wheel.

Mr Stuart added: "Shell has a long history in the Middle East and has been operating in some countries for more than 100 years. Our involvement at MEOS 2003 is about building on our reputation as a good partner, continuing the relationships and the partnerships we have developed in the Middle East and underlining Shell's commitment to the region."
