Schlumberger
launches new enterprise security solutions

Unique methodologies strengthen business process security
to maximise returns
Schlumberger announced its information technology business segment,
SchlumbergerSema, has unveiled its new Enterprise Security Solutions.
In addition to risk mitigation, this integrated solution approach
includes unique methodologies and tools, promising additional business
value through cost reduction, reduced liability and improved earnings.
Enterprise Security Solutions includes a patent-pending methodology
called Integrated Business Security (IBS), allowing an intimate
integration of security with business processes resulting in complete
alignment of security systems with business objectives.
The IBS approach of integrating security into business processes
has resulted in substantial returns on IT investments.
Examples include the securing of SCADA systems in the energy industry,
supply chain management in transport and fraud detection for banks.
In most cases, in addition to an optimised security solution, the
IBS approach has resulted in business process optimisation allowing
for productivity gains.
In short, IBS does for security what Total Quality Management does
for Quality.
"New system vulnerabilities mean security officers must look
beyond IT infrastructures. They should work at securing all aspects
of business-critical transactions," according to A. Dang van
Mien and J. Green-Armytage, industry analysts, Gartner, Inc.
Schlumberger Enterprise Security Solutions also includes a patent-pending
Tiered Security Maturity Assessment (SMA) Model, which provides
an evolutionary roadmap, allowing enterprises to measure their security
maturity progress, benchmark against best practices, and communicate
their security goals to all stakeholders.
The tiered security model provides a blueprint for closely aligning
people, policy, process and technologies within the business, from
an initial stage of maturity to the transformational stage, where
strengthened security becomes an enabler for business opportunities.
"A number of security professional service firms are offering
up methodologies which map the project and its progress to the customers'
goals.
Enterprises should look for these benchmarking tools in order to
take a comprehensive approach to building an information security
profile above and beyond a particular point project.
Such tools help the professional services firm and its client take
a more holistic view of infrastructure security," said Victor
S. Wheatman, managing vice president, Gartner, Inc.
"Feedback from our customers is that the Schlumberger Enterprise
Security Solution may unleash a paradigm shift in enterprise security,"
stated Saad Bargach, president, Consulting and Systems Integration,
SchlumbergerSema. "The reason for this is that our methodology
allows security to go beyond risk mitigation to become an enabler
of business opportunities."
The scale to which SchlumbergerSema can manage security and IT
service operations is also evident in its successful management
of the IT infrastructure for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt
Lake City.
Schlumberger will provide managed IT and security services for
the next three Olympic Games, including Athens in 2004, Turin in
2006 and Beijing in 2008.
The new Schlumberger Enterprise Security Solutions further expand
the company's proven track record in securing critical business
systems for oil & gas, global financial trading systems, nuclear
energy facilities, defense and police agencies and other enterprises
worldwide.
The U.S. Department of Defense, Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies,
ChevronTexaco, Nissan Motor Company, AON Corporation and other organisations
have selected SchlumbergerSema security services to support their
businesses.
Schlumberger Enterprise Security Solutions include proven consulting
and systems integration methodologies and services, as well as infrastructure
solutions through the DeXa Suite of Services.
