Magnetrol EHEDG approved products

Posted: 3 June 2003

Magnetrol International NV has successfully applied for EHEDG testing of several product ranges.

TNO, Nutrition and Food research at Zeist (The Netherlands) has performed in-place-clean ability tests and validated Horizon, Eclipse, Echotel and Thermatel controls compliant with the new EHEDG guidelines (ref 2,3,4).

The main characteristics of the sanitary controls by Magnetrol include mechanically buffed stainless steel sensor finishes up to 0,5 µm (RA 20), sensor shapes without angles / sharp edges, Valox or epoxy painted aluminium housings and a wide choice of process connections.

Horizon and Eclipse transmitters both utilize TDR technology and can measure liquid levels independently from any liquid variables (such as SG, pH, dielectric).

They are insensitive to process conditions, which limit the effectiveness of other technologies, e.g. foam, vapours, turbulences, temperature or pressure drifts.

The CIP/SIP Guided Wave Radar probe is available with 2”,3” or 4” Tri-clover compatible 16 AMP fittings and is installed with Hy-joint seals to fully meet the EHEDG requirements.

Echotel gap sensors utilize ultrasound waves to detect liquid level and are the switch equivalent of the Horizon and Eclipse transmitters. Unlike most vibrating rods, they totally ignore foam and don’t need any calibration at all.

Output options include all voltage, relay or shifting mA (16mA / 8mA-loop powered).

Thermatel detects, with common electronics, either liquid level or liquid and gas flow, or even liquid-liquid interface, by thermal dispersion technology.

The spherical shaped transducer houses two RTD’s of which the unheated one provides a reference temperature of the process conditions and the heated one measures the heat dissipation that occurs from contact with the medium, difference of medium, or flow rate.

Field calibration is easy to accomplish by means of a single potentiometer and trend indication via LED’s (only TG1 electronics).

These Magnetrol controls comply with the hygienic criteria of the Machinery Directive 98/37/EC annex 1 (additional essential health and safety requirements for certain categories of machinery) section 2.1 (agri-foodstuffs machinery), the hygienic requirements of EN 1672 – part 2 and with the hygienic equipment design criteria of the EHEDG [Ref. 2,3,4].
