Posted: 19 June 2003
The international Society of Petroleum Engineers has announced
the appointment of Ross Davidson to the position of Director of
Operations, Middle East Office to be located in Dubai UAE, and operational
by August of this year.
Davidson is currently Director of Operations for the Society’s
London office. During his tenure in the London office, Davidson
worked closely with many of the Society’s prominent members
in the Middle East.
In announcing this appointment at the 2003 Middle East Oil Show
(MEOS), Andrew A. Young, 2003 SPE President stated, “Establishing
an SPE office is a major commitment by our international Society.
This initiative underscores our commitment to providing superior
and equivalent services to our increasingly global membership, and
underscores the importance of this part of the world to our Society.”
“I am honored to be the first Director of Operations for
SPE’s Middle East Office being established in Dubai,”
said Davidson. “We are looking forward to improving the level
of service for our members in the Middle East by providing more
opportunities to collect and disseminate knowledge and by providing
better communication and coordination with SPE Sections and Student
Chapters.”
The main functions of the new SPE office are similar to those conducted
through SPE’s Dallas, Houston, Kuala Lumpur, and London offices.
These primary functions include:
- Organising SPE activities including meetings, conferences, exhibitions,
and Applied Technology Workshops.
- Supporting membership development activities, member services,
and greater utilisation of SPE services, including the SPE.org
internet knowledge portal, throughout the area.
- Assist in the growth of the Society and its wider reach within
our industry.
Davidson has more than 25 years experience in the oil and gas
exploration and production business and has worked in the Middle
East throughout his career. He joined SPE in 2001 as Director of
Operations, London office after 12 years with Oilfield Systems,
Ltd. where he served as Chief Executive.
Davidson holds an MBA from Kingston Business School and MSc and
BSc degrees. He and his family will relocate to Dubai to establish
a functioning office by August and an official opening in early
September.
Replacing Davidson as Director of Operations, London is Val Johnston-Jones,
currently Senior Exhibitions and Conference Manager of that office.
Johnston-Jones joined SPE in 1991 and is a highly experienced member
of the Society’s staff having worked in many areas of membership
development and conference organisation for over 20 years.
President Young is delighted to announce Johnston-Jones’s
promotion to head the London Office.
