TNT/SAB Express steps up operations in Saudi Arabia

Posted: 19 June 2003

Dhahran’s huge role in restoring Iraq’s oil industry

TNT/SAB Express is stepping up operations in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province through new services and major refurbishment of premises.

The initiatives come at a time when the Eastern Province is bustling with business. The Saudi economy is doing well, oil prices are healthy, OPEC has not confirmed quotas and Dhahran is playing a key role in helping Iraq’s oil industry get back to full production.

TNT/SAB’s boost for the Eastern Province was revealed by Country Manager Mark Pell who is also TNT manager for other GCC counties.

Pell says: “Across the Kingdom we have continued to strengthen our management team, bringing many years of global industry experience to Saudi Arabia. All of our employees understand the value and importance of offering first-class service.

“Dhahran is the gateway to the Eastern Province and, therefore, one of our most important operations in the Middle East. We’ll have some exciting new services to announce shortly.

SAB/TNT Express’s Eastern Prince Dhahran headquarters have been given a major facelift and Pell says the region is “pivotal to so much of what we do in Saudi Arabia.”

Pell says Dhahran in particular is emerging as arguably the leading player in terms of expertise and equipment in helping Iraq’s oil industry back to full production and the courier industry “is playing a major support role.”

“The oil industry here is arguably the most experienced and sophisticated in the world and a great deal of the help to the Iraqi oil sector is coming from here.

“So much of the expertise, machinery and logistics needed to get Iraq back in business production is nearby in the Eastern Province. We’re seeing evidence of the trend in the increased consignments coming in here, particularly from Europe and the US,” says Pell.

Industry veteran Pell, who recently took the reins of the integrator in the Kingdom, says: “I’m looking forward to maintaining the long-standing relationships with existing clients such as the Al Zabeel Group and areas of the auto industry as well as generating new business.”

“The new personnel, services and upgrading of our facilities are further illustration of our unswerving commitment to the market.”
