Artificial intelligence method for predicting open hole
data from cased hole logs
Halliburton Energy Services, through its Logging and Perforating
product service line, announced the commercialisation of Chi ModelingSM,
an advanced artificial intelligence method that applies neural network
techniques to predict open hole log responses from acquired cased
hole logs.
Chi Modeling allows geoscientists and engineers to evaluate their
reservoirs at reduced cost and minimised operational risk. Halliburton
Energy Services is a business unit of Halliburton .
Chi Modeling provides asset teams with a cost-effective alternative
to evaluate wells without using traditional open hole logging methods.
Chi Modeling results generate high quality data for direct use in
net pay calculations, stimulation design and reservoir characterisation
projects.
"E&P companies are continuously being challenged to improve
their reservoir characterisation efficiency in the face of more
complex reservoir targets," said Tim Probert, vice president
of Drilling and Formation Evaluation. "Halliburton has developed
an artificial intelligence method that can be used to produce accurate
and reliable synthetic triple combo data from cased hole logs to
improve the decision making process for our customers."
Chi Modeling Computation has been successfully applied in the Piceance
Basin, the Greater Green River Basin, the Pinedale Anticline of
the Rocky Mountain Region, within the San Juan Basin and the Gulf
of Mexico.
"Halliburton's cased hole neural network solution for generating
accurate triple combo data from pulsed neutron logs resulted in
an excellent correlation with open hole logs on the first wells
drilled in our Pinedale field. Stone Energy sees excellent potential
for future cost savings and improved program management through
the use of this technology," said Kim Overcash, Denver District
Reservoir Manager for Stone Energy.
Halliburton Energy Services provides products, services, and integrated
solutions for oil and gas exploration, development, and production.
Capabilities range from initial evaluation of producing formations
to drilling, completion, stimulation, and well maintenance –
for a single well or an entire field. With more than 300 service
centers in more than 100 countries, Halliburton possesses the global
perspective that is increasingly important for energy exploration
and production.
Halliburton, founded in 1919, is one of the world's largest providers
of products and services to the petroleum and energy industries.
The company serves its customers with a broad range of products
and services through its Energy Services Group and Engineering and
Construction Group business segments.
