Works to cater for over 6000 People in Das Island
Metito has completed work on a Dhs 23 million contract to design,
supply and install a state of the art sewage treatment works to
serve a population of over 6,000 people living on the island.
The project has now been finally commissioned and handed over by
Metito–Granite Consortium to ADMA/OPCO who are responsible
for the overall project.
The infrastructure that has been put in place will serve both existing
and future demands for wastewater treatment on the island.
After the successful handing over, Metito has started the 5 years
operation and maintenance contract with ADMA/OPCO of the complete
sewage collection and treatment systems on Das Island.
Metito, which has its headquarters for Europe, Asia and Africa
in Sharjah, completed the two year contract on schedule. Scope of
work for the company on the project included the design and building
of the mechanical and electrical components of the sewage treatment
plant, pumping stations and a SCADA monitoring system for the project.
The project is the latest in a series of major infrastructure projects
that Metito has undertaken in Abu Dhabi Emirate on behalf of Government
and Industrial Sectors.
Omar Al Zoubi Metito Abu Dhabi Branch Manager said “In a
tough hazardous working environment such as Das Island we have been
very proud to once again use our infrastructure expertise in wastewater
systems to help a major development in Abu Dhabi Emirate.
“We were also determined to ensure that the systems we introduced
were environmentally-friendly and designed to suit the location
and ensure that treated effluent will be used for irrigation and
plantation on the Island”.
The sewage treatment works installed can handle a peak flow up
to 260m3/hr to cater for the estimated population of 6,000 people
working on Das Island and coping with the different demands throughout
the day caused by the shift method of working on the island.
The final element of the project was creating a SCADA system –
a special software package that can be used for the monitoring at
Das Island Sewage Treatment Plant, and Sewage Lift Stations. The
SCADA system monitors the entire plant and lifting stations to ensure
that the status of the systems is regularly communicated to main
monitoring system at the Island.
A new technology introduced first in the Middle East was utilized
in the project to handle produced sludge with a minimum area and
to disinfect treated effluent using both ultra violet as primary
disinfection and chlorination as secondary disinfection.
Metito is the leading international company for the provision of
wastewater treatment, desalination and water supply projects. In
the UAE it operates its European, Asian and African operations from
its regional headquarters in Sharjah and has a factory and laboratory
facility in the Hamriya Free Zone.
Metito is an international company that was founded in 1958 by
Mr. Farouk Ghandour, its present Chairman, and has project management
capabilities to undertake similar and much larger projects worldwide.
