new Linux migration tool for E-Business Suite users

New Migration Tool and Front-Line Product Support Demonstrate
Oracle’s Continued Commitment to Linux in the Middle East
Oracle Corporation, the world’s largest enterprise software
company, furthered its commitment to Linux today by introducing
a new tool that will help companies migrate their existing Oracle
E-Business Suite implementations to Linux in order to realise high
availability and scalability at a substantially reduced cost.
Oracle’s Linux Platform Migration Utility provides customers
with the ability to move an existing Oracle applications implementation
from any platform to Linux. This enables customers to utilise fast,
low-cost hardware for their applications middle-tier. The Linux
Migration utility retains the exact patch level and many customisations
eliminating the need for database synchronisation or re-tooling.
The Linux Platform Migration utility is scheduled to be available
free of charge to customers in July.
Product Support for the Oracle E-Business Suite on Linux
Continuing Oracle’s commitment to provide superior support
and availability to its customers, the company has worked closely
with its Linux distribution partners, Red Hat and UnitedLinux, to
provide front-line technical support for the entire Oracle software
stack, including the Oracle E-Business Suite, as well as the Linux
operating system. The support service is available for customers
who have an Oracle product support contract and maintain an operating
system support contract with Red Hat or any of the four UnitedLinux
founding members. As a result, Oracle customers are seeing improved
response and faster resolution for critical issues. A single Oracle
support organisation helps ensure the highest level of support and
availability to its customers.
In addition to the new Linux Platform Migration Utility, Oracle
is helping customers to safely and reliably deploy the Oracle E-Business
Suite on Linux in mission critical environments through technical
contributions to enhance Linux, direct support of the key Linux
operating systems, and commitment to work with the Linux community
on the operating system’s first security evaluation.
“Customers know that Linux provides superior performance
at low cost, but a multi-month migration project is a formidable
obstacle for anyone,” said Ayman Abouseif, Senior Marketing
Director, Middle East, Africa, Eastern and Central Europe, Oracle
Corp. “With the Linux Platform Migration Utility, customers
can migrate more quickly to Linux and start realising cost savings
earlier.”
