HP
listed in leader quadrant in research report
Posted: 29 June 2003
HP announced that analyst group Gartner, Inc, listed HP in the
leader quadrant in its recent enterprise event management Magic
Quadrant research report.
Gartner evaluated HP’s ability to execute on its vision related
to a defined set of evaluation criteria from Gartner regarding current
and future market requirements.
According to Gartner, leaders are currently performing well, have
a clear vision of market direction and are actively building competencies
to sustain their leadership position in the market.
“Achieving a leader quadrant position in Gartner’s
Magic Quadrant is a testament to HP’s commitment to provide
customers with industry-leading service management solutions,”
said Nora Denzel, senior vice president, HP Software Global Business
Unit.
“As Gartner indicated, customers evaluate enterprise event
management products based on the breadth and depth of the solution
offered. Gartner’s findings are further confirmation that
HP service management offerings provide customers with the tools
to manage IT resources and services enabling them to effectively
manage, consolidate and align with business strategies and operations.”
According to Gartner, enterprise event management systems support
the acceptance of events from elements in the IT infrastructure;
consolidate, filter and correlate those events; notify the appropriate
IT operations personnel of critical events; and automate corrective
action where possible.
Event management helps IT operations personnel contend with the
deluge of events that come in from the IT infrastructure by narrowing
the events to the likely cause of the problem and associating them
with the potential business impact.
IT organisations invest in enterprise event management tools to
improve productivity of the IT operations staff and reduce the time
it takes to troubleshoot problems by consolidating events from various
devices, applications and other management tools. Without proper
event management, IT operations can be deluged with event storms,
numerous false positives and a “sea of red” on the various
monitors.

The Magic Quadrant is copyrighted May 2003 by Gartner,
Inc. and is reused with permission, which permission should not
be deemed to be an endorsement of any company or product depicted
in the quadrant.
The Magic Quadrant is Gartner, Inc.'s opinion and is an analytical
representation of a marketplace at and for a specific time period.
It measures vendors against Gartner defined criteria for a marketplace.
The positioning of vendors within a Magic Quadrant is based on the
complex interplay of many factors.
Gartner does not advise enterprises to select only those firms
in the "Leaders" quadrant.
In some situations, firms in the Visionary, Challenger, or Niche
Player quadrants may be the right matches for an enterprise's requirements.
Well-informed vendor selection decisions should rely on more than
a Magic Quadrant.
