Modern Freight Company expands facility in Dubai
Posted: 17 July 2003
Move to consolidate head office and operations a key part
of growth plans
Dubai-based supply chain and logistics services provider, Modern
Freight Company (MFC) has expanded its facility in the Jebel Ali
Free Zone to house its corporate head office, operations and support
functions under one roof.
In addition to its corporate head office functions and administrative
departments, MFC's new set-up brings together its entire range of
services including export and cross trade, projects handling, sea
and air import/export, customer service, warehousing and distribution
and a container freight station.
MFC's head office was previously located in Bur Dubai.
"The move to consolidate all our business and support functions
is a key thrust of our strategy to grow our market share in the
region," said Simon Heywood, General Manager, MFC.
"Our new approach facilitates an increased focus on our businesses
by streamlining processes, enhancing co-ordination and creating
stronger synergy amongst our staff," he added.
To complement its enlarged facility in Jebel Ali Free Zone, MFC
has also established a new Delivery Order Collection centre in the
Mankhool area of Bur Dubai.
The new Delivery Order centre offers convenience to its clients,
most of whom are located in the Dubai city, explains Christian Steimler,
Business Development Manager. "By facilitating the issuance
of delivery orders and collection of payment from clients, we can
speed up clients' collection of their cargo from the port or warehouses."
Plans are also underway to extend the issuance of delivery orders
to the Jebel Ali facility to cater for clients who are located in
its vicinity.
Along with the expansion moves, MFC has relocated its Container
Depot from Al Quoz Industrial area to a new yard in the Jebel Ali
Industrial Area.
The new 15,000-square metre depot can hold approx. 900 containers,
more than twice its previous, says Steimler.
The new facility aims to accommodate MFC's booming container business,
which has grown at an average of 30 to 50 percent of the last couple
of years.
ISO 9001:2000 certified
Tying in with these strategic moves, MFC has recently achieved ISO
9001:2000 quality certification.
This new standard, which meets the rising demand for quality in
the transport market, is known to be the most comprehensive certification
in the international ISO quality system, testing service and process
quality, management, training and standard auditing.
