Marathon gas discovery near Alba field Equatorial Guinea
Posted: 25 July 2003
Marathon Oil Corporation through its wholly-owned subsidiary Marathon
E.G. Production LTD, announced a natural gas discovery on Block
D offshore Equatorial Guinea.
The discovery well is on the Bococo Prospect, located in 238 feet
of water, approximately six miles west of the Alba gas/condensate
field. The well was drilled to a total measured depth of 6,110 feet
and encountered 185 feet of net dry gas pay.
The well has been suspended for re-entry at a later date. The Bococo
gas discovery complements the adjacent dry gas discoveries on Block
D for future development.
"Current plans call for this gas to be developed through the
proposed liquefied natural gas project associated with the Alba
Field on Bioko Island, a component of Marathon's integrated gas
strategy," commented Philip Behrman, Marathon senior vice president
of Worldwide Exploration.
Marathon is the operator of Block D with a 90-percent interest
along with SK Corporation holding the remaining 10 percent.
Marathon is an integrated energy company engaged in the worldwide
exploration, production and transportation of crude oil and natural
gas.
Through Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC, the company also refines,
markets and transports petroleum products in the United States.
