Leading business group moves business critical applications
from Windows to Linux
Oracle Corporation, the world’s largest enterprise software
company, announced Al Ghurair Group has migrated its Oracle E-Business
Suite applications from Windows to Linux in order to achieve higher
availability and improved security at a lower cost of ownership.
The group, which uses Oracle E-Business Suite to streamline business
processes across its diverse real estate and manufacturing holdings,
runs Oracle Financials, Oracle Property Manager, Oracle Enterprise
Asset Management and Oracle Supply Chain Management to integrate
and consolidate its operations, while reducing administrative costs.
Al Ghurair Group uses Oracle E-Business Suite improve financial
reporting and analysis across its real estate division, which includes
BurJuman and Al Reef Shopping Malls, as well as the commercial and
residential properties within the AED 1.4 billion BurJuman extension.
The Group’s manufacturing interests, such as Gulf Extrusions
and its plastics and paper packaging plants, utilise the Oracle
solutions to lower costs through reduced inventory and to speed
time to market for its cardboard, polyfilm and aluminium container
products.
Al Ghurair Group has completed the migration of its Oracle E-Business
Suite environment from Windows to Linux using its internal information
technology team and is already reaping the benefits of the lower
cost of ownership and higher availability and security offered by
Linux.
“Our decision to migrate from Windows to Linux was driven
by the need to achieve higher uptime for our business while improving
information security and reducing cost of ownership,” said
Hatem Al-Sibai, group IT manager, Al Ghurair Group. “Oracle’s
commitment to Linux made it easier for us to make the right decision
to move to Linux. We believe Linux is the way forward and are proud
of our information technology team who completed the migration in
a record time.
Ayman Abouseif, Oracle Corporation’s senior marketing director
for Middle East, Africa, Eastern and Central Europe, commented:
“Everyone knows Linux costs less, and Oracle makes it more
reliable too. Al Ghurair Group has taken a bold step and migrated
to Linux. Organisations migrating to Linux should expect to achieve
higher uptime, and improved security at lower cost of ownership,
enabling them to re-invest in strategic information technology initiatives.”
Oracle is the only major enterprise software company to offer first-line,
direct technical support for RedHat Linux operating systems.
And Oracle continues to support Linux's open architecture by contributing
significant open source code to its developer community.
Not only does Oracle recommend its customers run their applications
on Linux, but Oracle also runs its own business applications on
the Linux platform.
Oracle Corporation runs E-Business Suite deployed on a middle tier
running Linux and even runs its demonstration environment —
where performance is critical — on Linux.
Oracle E-Business Suite
The Oracle E-Business Suite is the industry's first integrated
suite of Internet business applications that automate critical business
processes, offering customers unprecedented choice and flexibility
in implementing business applications. Its open architecture and
single data model allow applications to be deployed as individual
modules, business flows, or as an entire integrated suite. The Oracle
E-Business Suite is offered as traditional software on CD ROMs or
as an outsourced service.
