Gulf Business Machines and SunTech Solutions partnership

Posted: 27 July 2003

Gulf Business Machines (GBM), sole distributor for IBM products and services in the Gulf countries excluding Saudi Arabia, and SunTech Solutions, provider of application software and services to meet the financial and banking technology requirements of governments, banks and other financial organisations, have signed an agreement to offer SunTech’s next generation banking service solutions across the Middle East.

SunTech Solutions’ banking and financial products, e-Government applications and services, e-Learning and creative and interactive web-based solutions enable financial entities to extend their customer reach through new cost effective service channels.

This is facilitated through SunTech Solutions’ EPRA (Easy Payment Receipts Application), its ‘MyCard’ smart card, and its IReach 2-way Notification Server, which allows banks and customers to conveniently engage in anytime, anywhere mobile-banking.

“GBM and SunTech Solutions are working together to add a new dimension to the total value offering in the banking and financial sector, which includes providing the ability for such entities to securely collect credit card payments through alternative channels, such as at petrol stations and supermarkets, as well as offering personalised applications for future chip-based smart cards, a key innovation in the area of Visa EMV compliance,” said Muhammad Ashraf, Senior Architect, GBM.

“Alternative credit card payment methods through EPRA terminals rather than conventional ATMs offer additional conveniences for customers as well as cost savings for banks,” said Rohit Tandon, Director of SunTech Solutions. “The ‘MyCard’ application, which contains a menu of personalised applications, allows organisations to enhance the range of services offered through a single card, thereby enhancing the functionality of the soon to be introduced EMV cards.”

The range of uses of a single card, through the ‘MyCard’ application, includes its abilities to function as a health card, a debit card, an air miles loyalty card as well as a driving licence, among others. This not only offers the convenience of having to only carry a single card but also enhances security for financial transactions beyond that which is available with current conventional plastic cards.

The IReach 2-way Notification Server for mobile banking allows banks to communicate with thousands of customers at the press of a button. Customers can retrieve important information from the bank’s systems just by sending an SMS to a pre-defined number.

“With IReach, there is no more need to dial a telephone and go through a long menu of instructions – a simple SMS message sent by a customer enables him to check his credit card dues, enquire about his current and savings account balances, and obtain the latest currency exchange rates,” added Mr Tandon.

The creation of this 25th business partner arrangement further extends GBM’s comprehensive solutions and service offering as a leader in all sectors of the markets in which it operates.
