Offshore Europe 2003 attracts industry heavyweights
Posted: 4 August 2003
Top names from the global upstream oil sector will tackle
some of the toughest issues facing the industry at the Offshore
Europe Conference and Exhibition
The ‘A’ list of E&P figures in one of the most
forward-thinking conference programmes ever compiled for the biennial
event in Aberdeen, Scotland.
The list includes Walter van de Vijver, Chief Executive Officer
of Shell E&P; his colleague Leo Roodhart, Shell E&P’s
Innovation Manager; John Crum, Executive Vice President of Apache
Corp.; Roy Franklin, Chief Executive of Paladin Resources; Clive
Fowler, Chairman of LOGIC and Bob Kyle of the UK Offshore Operators
Association (UKOOA).
Further upper-management level speakers and panellists appearing
throughout the three days of the conference come from other oil
industry giants such as BP, ChevronTexaco, Total, Amerada Hess and
Kerr-McGee; fast-moving ‘independents’ such as Venture
Production, Tuscan Energy and Talisman Energy; and oil services
majors such as Schlumberger, Halliburton, Baker Hughes, KCA Deutag
Drilling and Wood Group, to name but a few.
Mature Basins, Supply Chain Competitiveness & HSE performance
OE 2003 organisers The Offshore Europe Partnership — a joint
venture between Spearhead Exhibitions and the Society of Petroleum
Engineers (SPE) — say the conference will be the most interactive
yet held.
The Plenary Session is titled ‘Raising The Game: Leadership,
Behaviour and Technology in Mature Basins’ and will also feature
Stephen Timms MP, Minister for e-commerce and Competitiveness, while
a panel debate will also be held entitled ‘Life Begins At
40 — New Business Models To Further Develop Mature Basins’.
A roundtable discussion on Day 2 will cover the competitiveness
of international mature basins, while a panel debate will focus
on competitiveness in the supply chain, and the exportability of
knowledge.
The final day will feature a debate on Health, Safety and Environment
and the industry’s performance thus far.
Bruce Dingwall, OE 2003 Conference Chairman and Chief Executive
of Venture Production, said: “Aside from discussing leadership,
behaviour and technology in mature basins, other conference highlights
will include new business models for mature areas, cross industry
learning opportunities, an examination of the role of industry initiatives,
a discussion of the competitiveness of international mature basins,
and health and safety issues.
“All this plus of course cutting-edge technical sessions
on the full range of upstream segments from formation evaluation
and reservoir engineering through to drilling, completions and production
engineering.
”This exciting programme featuring some of the upstream industry’s
most influential speakers will, we hope, help precipitate a change
in mindset and thinking, and throughout the keynote speeches, interactive
roundtable and technical sessions assist us all in 'raising the
game'.”
Mark Rubin, Executive Director of the SPE, added: “The North
Sea is poised to enter a new, more mature phase and the conference
programme reflects the challenges – both technical and economic
– of this changing environment. Conference delegates will
have an opportunity to hear a thorough discussion on this changing
environment and the approaches needed to maximise economic recovery
of reserves in mature basins, as well as the outlook for ensuring
that the North Sea Industry can export its knowledge around the
world.”

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is a non-profit, technical,
and professional association whose more than 53,000 members from
more than 100 countries are engaged in energy resources development
and production. SPE’s mission is to provide the means for
collection, dissemination, and exchange of technical information
concerning the development of oil and gas resources, subsurface
fluid flow, and production of other materials through wellbores
for public benefit; and to provide opportunities through its programs
for interested (and qualified) individuals to maintain and upgrade
their individual technical competence in the aforementioned areas
for public benefit.
