SABIC EuroPetrochemicals standardises on Pavilion Solutions
for Polypropylene Business

Posted: 4 August 2003

Results in 17 BP Strategic Alliance Projects

SABIC EuroPetrochemicals, the fourth largest polyolefin producer in Europe, has selected Pavilion's advanced process control (APC) solution for the polypropylene lines at its world-scale production facilities in Geleen, Netherlands and Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

Standardizing on Pavilion's Process Perfecter solution will enable SABIC EuroPetrochemicals to maintain its competitive advantage in the polypropylene market by enhancing product quality and increasing production of polypropylene.

SABIC EuroPetrochemicals will install Pavilion's solutions on three polypropylene lines using BP's Innovene technology.

“As a leader in polymers, we expect the same of our partners,” said Jack Slabbers, plant manager of SABIC EuroPetrochemicals. Pavilion has a depth of knowledge and polymers experience that is outstanding.”

“We selected Pavilion because they had the best combination of people and technology to meet the needs of our polypropylene business,” said Michael Müller plant manager of SABIC EuroPetrochemicals.

Pavilion’s experienced team of polymer engineers has installed APC applications on every major polymer process technology and catalyst type.

Pavilion’s solutions power 65 polymer reactors and 46 polymer lines, representing the largest APC portfolio in the polymer industry. Pavilion’s flagship APC and optimization software solution, Process Perfecter, optimizes the production of billions of pounds of polymer annually, creating hundreds of millions of dollars in value for its customers.

“We are honored to count a global leader like SABIC EuroPetrochemicals as one of our polymer clients. By standardizing on our proven APC solution, we are confident that SABIC will enhance its leadership position in the market and provide its clients with noticeable benefits,² said Pavilion President and CEO Ralph Carter.

Pavilion’s solution for polymers delivers an estimated $6 per ton savings on average by increasing production 2-8 per cent, improving product quality by 50-70 per cent and reducing transition times by as much as 50 per cent. As a result, Pavilion’s clients are able to enhance the manufacturing flexibility of their existing assets and enhance their competitive advantage.

As part of a 10-year strategic alliance with Pavilion, BP offers its polypropylene and polyethylene licensees access to Pavilion’s APC solutions and proven deployment methodology on BP¹s process technology.

As a BP Innovene licensee, SABIC EuroPetrochemicals was able to leverage this alliance to reduce the total APC lifecycle costs through accelerated deployment of Pavilion’s technology. These three lines bring the total number of projects under the BP alliance to 17 in a little more than three years.
