Their professional expertise, sense of commitment and dedication have been key assets in our company's drive for continued success. We thank them for their many contributions and extend our best wishes to them and their families."

A. R. "Bob" Kukla graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1966 with a bachelor of science degree in petroleum and natural gas engineering. Following graduation, he joined Marathon as a petroleum engineer in Bridgeport, Illinois. He subsequently served the company in various engineering and supervisory positions in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alaska, Ohio, Texas and Wyoming until 1986, when he moved to Houston as engineering manager for the Domestic Production organization. The following year, Kukla was appointed senior operations coordinator of Domestic Production.

In 1988, he was transferred to Alaska as manager of the Alaska Production Region. Three years later, he moved to Midland, Texas, where he assumed responsibilities as manager of the Mid-Continent Production Region. He was elected vice president of Domestic Production-Continental United States effective October 1, 1997, and in September 2000 was appointed vice president of Global Procurement.

Professionally, Kukla is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the American Petroleum Institute, and the Institute for Supply Management, the Independent Petroleum Association of America, and the Procurement Strategy Council. He also is a 1983 graduate of the Program for Management Development at Harvard University's Graduate School of Business.

L. Michael Mueller assumed his current position in 2000 and had previously served as vice president of Domestic Production-Gulf of Mexico & Worldwide Deepwater Development since September 1999. Prior to that, Mueller was the Worldwide Deepwater manager beginning in 1998 and the general manager for Marathon U.K. in Aberdeen, Scotland, from 1996 to 1998. From 1992 to 1996, he was the Rocky Mountain Region manager in Cody, Wyoming.

Mueller joined Marathon in 1977 as a reservoir engineer and holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Throughout his career at Marathon, Mueller has held a range of engineering, supervisory and management positions in Texas, Illinois, Louisiana, Wyoming, and Aberdeen, Scotland.

He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Marine Technology Society and is a Registered Professional Engineer in Illinois and Ohio. Mueller also is a member of the board of directors of the Houston Chapter of INROADS.

Kenneth J. Orlowski began his Marathon career in 1976 as a tax attorney and has subsequently held a number of tax and legal positions of increasing responsibility supporting the company's refining, corporate, human resources, labor, transportation, finance and administration organizations. He was promoted to senior counsel in 1984, and to general attorney in 1986, where he managed the legal staffs responsible for supporting the administration, environmental, real estate, human resources and domestic production areas of the company.

In 1992, Orlowski was elected senior vice president of Administration, general counsel and secretary of Dallas-based Delhi Gas Pipeline Company (then, a related operating unit). While there, he managed the legal, environmental and safety, human resources, security, real estate, public and governmental affairs, and administration organizations of the company.
