WesternGeco awarded contract for Algeria surveys
Posted: 19 August 2003
WesternGeco announced Gaz de France has awarded the company a contract
to perform the initial phase of a reservoir characterisation survey
over several fields onshore Algeria.
The project includes both multicomponent (3C) acquisition and 3D
acquisition and infield processing over an initial 500 square kilometers
in the Touat PSC area of central Algeria.
Successful reservoir characterisation will provide for rapid appraisal
of the field with reduced development risk.
"WesternGeco offered an innovative suite of products that
we believe will provide value in the overall reservoir characterisation
of the field,” said Kaï-Uwe Kessel, Manager North Africa,
Gaz de France E&P division, Paris. “We look forward to
the quickest possible turnaround of a quality product.”
"Gaz de France and its partners are pioneers in reservoir characterisation
techniques for the Algerian market, and we are pleased to have been
chosen as the technology partner for this important project,"
said Salem El Sayed, WesternGeco regional manager for the Middle
East.
Preliminary studies for the project included an integrated design
and workflow for the wide-azimuth 3D amplitude variation with azimuth
(AVA) and 3C work. The project is scheduled to begin in September.
WesternGeco, a joint venture between Schlumberger and Baker Hughes,
is a leader in integrated exploration and reservoir imaging services,
providing worldwide seismic acquisition, processing, and multiclient
surveys.
