Labtech expands fleet hire, adds new workshop
Posted: 25 August 2003
A worldwide rise in demand for its high quality modules and welding
habitats has led to engineering specialist to the oil and gas industry,
Labtech Modular Engineering, significantly increasing production
and acquiring additional premises in Aberdeen.
The company has added 12 new modules and three welding habitats
to its hire fleet, and has acquired an additional 8,000 square foot
workshop adjacent to its existing three acre site in Blackness Road,
Altens, Aberdeen.
The new facility will undertake all Labtech¹s outfitting and
electrical work. The company's existing 22,000 square foot workshop
will now focus on fabrication.
The modules and welding habitats have been built to the latest
Norwegian design and safety standards - the highest standards in
the world and are therefore suitable for use in any international
location. The company has also appointed a new agent in Stavanger,
Norway, to administer the growing demand for Labtech's hire fleet
in the Norwegian market.
The announcements are in line with the on-going growth strategy
from the company, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
Labtech was recently accepted onto Scottish Enterprise's Globalisation
Programme.
Under the programme the company will receive assistance to expand
into further international markets through a carefully defined global
strategy.
Labtech Managing Director Jim Manson said: "The increase in
size of our hire fleet and our expansion in Aberdeen reflect the
growing demand internationally for hire cabins generally and our
products specifically. By building our hire modules to the latest
Norwegian standards, which are increasingly being adopted by other
oil and gas producing countries as the ultimate industry standards,
they can be deployed worldwide rather than be limited to use in
specific areas. "The growth of our hire fleet represents an
excellent opportunity for those operators who require modules but
do not want to tie themselves up in the capital costs of purchase.
"We have appointed a new agent in Norway to service and bolster
interest there in our hire fleet. However, it is also the first
step in our declared vision of having a presence in the main oil
centres of the world."
Labtech Modular Engineering, established in 1983, is dedicated
to excellence in modular engineering and specialises in the design,
manufacture, repair, refurbishment and hire of containerised and
skid mounted equipment.
Labtech is acknowledged for producing high quality products which
are well suited to operation in highly arduous and hazardous conditions
and are approved by many of the major operators in the oil and gas
industry as a supplier of choice.
The company¹s modules are deployed in the world¹s major
oil and gas regions - offshore and onshore - including the North
Sea, Australia, Japan, the Former Soviet Union, the Middle East,
Brazil and West Africa. The cabins are designed to suit a range
of operations including engineering cabins, laboratories, logging
units and MWD cabins.
The welding habitats are effectively a module within a module and
are used for the welding of coiled tubing offshore, in a safe, controlled
environment, without the need of hot work permits.
Labtech Modular Engineering employs 73 people in Blackness Road,
Altens, Aberdeen, Scotland.
