Polyolefins vice-president comments on outlook for the
Middle East
Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) today delivered a keynote
speech at the Dubai Plast Pro 2003 Congress.
Abdulrahman Al-Ubaid, Vice President of SABIC’s Polyolefins
SBU, spoke about the “Outlook for Middle East Polyolefins”
to an audience of industry professionals, customers, and commentators.
Referring to SABIC’s challenges and opportunities, Dr Al-Ubaid
said: “Middle East polyolefin production, and converter capacity,
is much greater than regional demand. For this reason we cannot
profit from our feedstock and geographic advantage if we cannot
sell and deliver our products to the global market.”
Dr Al-Ubaid continued by adding his opinions on the future of the
polymers industry in the region, and recommendations for its success.
SABIC is the major sponsor of the Dubai Plast Pro Congress, which
is taking place in the Crown Plaza Hotel on 1st-3rd September 2003.
It will also host an evening dinner reception for invited guests,
and deliver two other papers — on SABIC PVC Pipe Resins and
Polystyrene Insulation — at the conference.
Other conference speeches covered the global polymer business climate,
plastic pipes and fittings, plastic packaging products and the issue
of recycling.
