Halliburton's entire Norway operation ISO 14001 certified
Posted: 4 September 2003
Halliburton Energy Services has been awarded ISO 14001 certification
by global certifying body Det Norske Veritas (DNV) for its entire
operation in Norway.
Halliburton Energy Services is a business unit of Halliburton.
For certification, Halliburton Norway fulfilled all 17 elements
of the ISO 14001 standard and met all expectations of its documented
environmental policy which emphasises: continuous improvement, pollution
prevention and compliance with laws and regulations.
Achieving this certification is the final testimony to more than
two years of concerted effort and commitment from management and
employees alike, which began with the initial certification of a
single product service line (PSL), Production Enhancement, in 2001.
Lessons learned from that certification process were shared with
other PSL's, and a momentum built up in the whole organisation that
helped to transform the culture and achieve certification for the
rest of the company.
The PSL's covered by the ISO 14001 certification are: Production
Enhancement, Cementing, Baroid, Sperry-Sun, Security DBS, Tools
Testing & TCP and Completion Services for all offshore and onshore
activities including support processes.
"This is a great achievement and it certainly strengthens
our position since we are the first service company in the Norwegian
market to achieve this certification; it pays off in terms of improved
service quality and we know both clients and authorities have observed
what we have achieved here," says Jorunn Saetre, Country vice
president for ESG Norway. "This has been a great team effort
and an educational process for the entire organisation; we have
seen that the certification process clearly has improved focus and
attention to environmental aspects and work processes in general."
Thor Nysted, DNV's Regional manager and lead auditor during the
recent certifications commented in his close-out meeting, "After
certification of Production Enhancement, Baroid and Cementing we
had we high regard for Halliburton's environmental performance,
in particular we have been very impressed by the clear engagement
from top management and the openness and dedication of the employees
who take their work seriously. We are very satisfied with the way
Halliburton have handled all our comments and suggestions and in
particular the way that all corrective actions are documented and
followed up."
ISO 14001 is a voluntary international standard for environmental
management and was released in 1996 by the International Organisation
for Standardisation, having been requested by the United Nations
following the Rio Environmental Summit.
It outlines the framework for the creation and implementation of
an environmental management system (EMS) Being certified as an ISO
14001 company is considered highly prestigious and valuable in global
terms and demonstrates a pro-active stance towards environmental
excellence as well as being a visual commitment to protecting the
environment for our children and the future.
