Vector International scores first Caspian contract
Posted: 4 September 2003
Vector International has been awarded a contract by Technip-Coflexip
to supply 350 Techlok compact clamp connectors for the gas extraction
development in the Shah Deniz field operated by BP on behalf of
the Shah Deniz partners in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian
Sea.
The contract is Vector’s first in the Caspian region and
worth in the region of £500k.
Techlok connectors will be supplied in sizes ranging from 1 to
16 inches, manufactured in duplex and super duplex steels, and will
be used on flowlines on the Shah Deniz platform at pressures up
to 10,000 psi.
Techlok clamp connectors provide a high performance, no-leak solution
to ANSI flanges and offer weight and space savings of some 70 to
80 per cent on traditional connection methods, but with improved
seal integrity. Indeed, it was these very features, coupled with
Vector International’s high-level service and on-going project
support that were the key reasons for Techlok being specified for
the development.
“Lightweight, compact and most importantly leak-free connectors
provide significant advantages over the traditional flange, particularly
offshore where of course space and weight are chief concerns and
avoiding leaks is paramount, not only because of the associated
costs. Technology such as Vector’s is drawing increasing attention
throughout the world and such are the benefits it offers we expect
it to feature predominantly in the development of the Caspian region.
We look forward to generating further business there,” says
Ian Robinson, Vector International’s vice president marketing
and sales.
Already successful in many of the world’s major-oil producing
regions, strengthening relationships with operators and contractors
in developing regions is a key goal for Vector International in
the first year following the merger during which it is aiming for
growth of some 40%.
Further high-performance connection products in Vector International’s
product range include the SPO compact flange and Optima subsea connector,
which together with Techlok, provide a solution for all connection
requirements onshore, offshore and subsea, from flow-lines to risers
and the deep sea floor.
Delivery of the contract will commence in July 2003.
