Fortum included in Dow Jones sustainability indexes
Posted: 5 September 2003
Dow Jones Indexes, STOXX Limited and SAM Group have announced the
results of the annual review for the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes
(DJSI).
Fortum has been selected as a component for both worldwide and
pan-European indexes this year. Fortum is the first Nordic company
in the Utilities sector.
The assessment results provide detailed information about recent
sustainability developments in the corporate world. Across all industries
the integration of economic, environmental and social criteria has
moved further up the business agenda and is increasingly incorporated
into company strategies and core business operations.
"Fortum strives to be a good corporate citizen by making a
positive contribution to the societies in which it operates. Its
long-term business success depends on its ability to supply innovative
energy products and services, leading to a more sustainable use
of energy. This index selection shows that we are going in the right
direction. We are very glad that our efforts are appreciated,"
says Fortum´s President and CEO Mikael Lilius.
Effective with the opening of equity markets on September 22, 2003,
DJSI World will include over 300 companies from 22 countries that
lead their industry in terms of corporate sustainability. The pan-European
sustainability benchmark (DJSI STOXX) will include 178 companies
from 13 countries.
