Marathon
first production from Braemar field
Posted: 1 October 2003
Marathon Oil Corporation, through its wholly owned subsidiary
Marathon Oil UK, Ltd, announced it has commenced production of gas
and condensate from the Marathon-operated Braemar Field.
Production is flowing at a gross daily rate of approximately 50
million cubic feet of gas (mmcf) and 4,500 barrels of condensate.
The Braemar Field is a gas and condensate reservoir discovered
in 1985 and located in UK Continental Shelf Block 16/3c in the Central
North Sea some 315 kilometers (196 miles) northeast of Aberdeen
in a water depth of approximately 125 meters (410 feet).
The field has been developed with a single subsea well tied back
to the Marathon-operated East Brae platform 12 kilometers (7.5 miles)
to the south where the liquids and gas are processed. Braemar condensate
production is then delivered from East Brae to the Forties pipeline
system.
Braemar gas is contracted to the Miller Group and flows into the
Brae gas processing and transportation complex.
Gas will be delivered to the Miller Group through the new 9-kilometer
(5.5 mile), 16- inch Brae-Miller Link Line connecting the Brae B
platform to the BP-operated Miller platform.
The Link Line is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter
of this year.
Commenting on the new production, Les Thomas, President of Marathon
Oil UK, Ltd, the operator of Braemar, said, "Braemar has been
a successful satellite development only made possible by the use
of existing infrastructure. It enhances the value of the Brae area
infrastructure and the Brae-Miller Link Line provides a connection
between the SAGE and Miller gas systems which provides flexibility
for the future."
The Braemar field holds estimated total resources of approximately
116 billion cubic feet (bcf) of gas and 10 million barrels of liquids.
Marathon is operator of Braemar and holds a 26 per cent interest
in the development.
The remaining interests are held by BP Exploration Operating Company
Limited and Arco British Limited (52 per cent), Talisman Energy (UK)
Limited (10 per cent), Kerr-McGee Oil (UK) PLC (5 per cent), Nippon
Oil Exploration and Production UK Limited (4 per cent), and Lundin
North Sea Limited (3 per cent).
Partners in the Brae-Miller Link Line are: BP Exploration Operating
Company Limited and BP Exploration (Alpha) Limited (40.5 per cent),
which serves as operator, Marathon Oil UK, Ltd. (19.3 per cent),
ConocoPhillips (UK) Limited (15 per cent), Saxon Oil Miller Limited
(9 per cent), Talisman Energy (UK) Limited (7 per cent), Kerr-McGee
Oil (UK) PLC (4 per cent), Nippon Oil Exploration and Production
UK Limited (3.2 per cent), and Lundin North Sea Limited (2 per cent).
