Oilfield Products awards Tronic major subsea electrical contract
for Dalia field
Posted: 2 October 2003
Subsea electrical connector supplier Tronic Limited has been awarded
a significant contract from subsea engineering specialists, Kvaerner
Oilfield Products (KOP) for the provision of connectors and related
equipment for Total's Dalia project, an oil and gas development
offshore Angola.
With a value in excess of £2 million, this contract represents
Tronic's single biggest order to date, and covers provision of Tronic's
modular connectors and hose, plus electrical feedthrough connectors
and jumpers for use on control and tree systems within KOP's subsea
system.
Tronic, a subsidiary of oilfield services provider Expro International
Group PLC, specialises in providing electrical, optical and high
power connector systems based on its patented Controlled Environment
(CE) design.
It has offices in Houston, USA; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Ulverston,
UK; and employs 150 staff. The work will be carried out by the team
based in Ulverston.
Now underway, the contract will run for 3 years, with first oil
expected from Dalia in 2006.
Manufacturing of the subsea equipment is progressing at Tronic's
facility in Ulverston. The installation work will be performed by
Tronic's Systems Support team who will work alongside Total and
KOP engineers at various site locations in Europe and Angola.
Deliveries of the subsea equipment for the 42-tree base case, will
be based on individual call-offs, commencing in October 2003. Final
subsea installation and commissioning will be performed by the Umbilical
Flow Lines installation contractor using ROVs from the Dalia field
FPSO, which is currently under construction.
Mark Jones, business manager at Tronic in Ulverston, said, "We
are delighted with this contract award, which underlines Tronic¹s
ability to support major engineering contractors like KOP on large
projects such as these. Our infrastructure and modularised products
are well aligned to support AkerKvaerner¹s global business
strategy".
The contract is key for Tronic not only in terms of its value,
but also in cementing the excellent relationship the company has
established with subsea systems provider KOP.
Dalia is the first major project for which Tronic will provide
KOP with its DigiTRON connector range and its new AquaTRON hose
which are well suited to deepwater applications such as those offshore
Angola.
The 67-well Dalia field is located in water depths of between 1,200
and 1,500 metres, 135 kilometres offshore Angola and as such provides
special challenges to suppliers and engineers.
Tronic's products will provide the high reliability and proven
track record required for the conditions encountered in this deepwater
environment.
"We selected Tronic because they have a good track record
in providing high quality subsea equipment to integrate with KOP¹s
own systems," says Willie Linklater, vice president of products
with KOP. "With the challenge of Angola¹s deepwater environment,
reliability is critical, and we know that Tronic¹s equipment
will give our client the reliability they require. Tronic¹s
equipment will ensure long component life with minimal interventions
over the life of the field."
