Petrofac
takes over management of Tullow's North Sea assets
Posted: 2 October 2003
Petrofac Facilities Management, the leading operations management
company, has officially taken over responsibility for management
of Tullow Oil UK Ltd's Hewett facility in the Southern North Sea
and its Bacton Gas Terminal in Norfolk.
The landmark agreement, which came into force on October 1, 2003,
marks the first time that a facilities management company has assumed
management of an onshore gas terminal in the UK (Bacton).
Petrofac will also manage the six gas-producing installations in
the Hewett Field, 25 miles east of Great Yarmouth. The Hewett installations,
three normally unmanned with the others joined in a central complex,
are tied back to the onshore Bacton Terminal in Norfolk.
The Operatorship transfer is Petrofac's fourth UKCS Facilities
Management agreement. As well as managing the production facilities
for the ChevronTexaco Galley field for the past five years, Petrofac
recently completed the transition of the Paladin-owned Montrose,
Arbroath and Arkwright fields and assumed responsibility for these
facilities in May 2003.
Petrofac has also been awarded a contract by Venture Production
for its Kittiwake facility, which was acquired earlier this year.
Under the agreement, Petrofac is responsible for the safe and effective
operation of the facilities.
John Methven, Operations Director, Petrofac Facilities Management
Europe, said: "The transfer of operatorship agreement with
Tullow is significant to Petrofac as it represents a milestone in
the development of our company into the Southern North Sea and onshore
terminal management. It also signifies the route for the industry
to enable field life extension of mature oil and gas fields.
"We will be using the competence, knowledge and management
systems we have developed over the past 20 years to achieve the
exemplary results from the assets."
"This innovative relationship we have developed with Tullow
is indicative of the way Petrofac is aligning directly with its
clients' key business drivers. It demonstrates Petrofac's full facilities
management capability and maintains our position as the first choice
provider of operations management, maintenance, engineering and
construction services to the oil, gas and petrochemical marketplace."
