The 7th Arabian Society for Human Resource Management
Posted: 7 October 2003
The 7th Arabian Society for Human Resource Management opening ceremonies
Sunday, has been a success according to many observers. The event
which theme is “Innovation, the Powerful Engine of Human Resources”
held at the Grand Hyatt Conference Center has been filled with distinguished
personalities in the area of human resource.
The program has been made official with ribbon cutting and opening
of the exhibition hall led by distinguished guest of honor and speaker,
Mr. Kurt Waldheim, former President of the Federal Republic of Austria
and former United Nation’s Secretary General, Mr. Said Babidan,
President of ASHRM and Conference Chairman and Mr. Mohammed Al-Jailani,
ASRHM Conference Vice Chairman.
Chairman Babidan, in his opening speech has acknowledged and thanked
the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum,
the Crown Prince of Dubai and Defense Minister of the UAE, who has
been represented by his son, H.H. Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid
Al-Maktoum.
Referring to Sheikh Mohammed, Babiban said that the city of Dubai
is a city of innovation because it is the home of a man with a vision,
adding that the Crown Prince who is transforming Dubai to meet the
challenges of the next millennium, is a strong believer of training
and developing human resources.
Also in his speech, Babidan has acknowledged Mr. Kurt Waldheim
for donating his conference fees to the children of Iraq and Palestine.
He welcomed the eight hundred delegates consisting of 30 nationalities,
and has not failed to mention the sponsors of the event –
Saudi Aramco, AlFalak Electronic Equipment Company, ADNOC, Emirates
Airlines, Tanmia, Arabian Radio Network, Bayt, Leading Concept and
Dubai Media City. Babidan especially mentioned DPM News Agency for
the exclusive media coverage and Al-Tayyar Group, ASHRM’s
official travel coordinator for the convention.
A very informative and insightful speech by Mr. Waldheim, the night’s
distinguished guest speaker, garnered admiration from the audience
as he juxtaposed the convention theme, innovation, with his own
personal experience as a diplomat, foreign minister and head of
state and as Secretary General of the United Nations for 10 years.
According to the former Austrian President, who considers the UAE
as a unique blend of political wisdom, economic expertise and well-established
cultural and spiritual traditions, the conference theme is all the
more appropriate and absorbing, given the incredible upswing that
the region, Dubai in particular, has enjoyed over the past few years.
Mr. Waldheim has kept the audience glued to their seats, when he
said that where innovation is concerned, crises are often a major
driving force. He stressed that every crisis has a meaning and a
message; that it offers people an opportunity to learn and mature.
He said, "Once the inner meaning of a crisis has been revealed
and analyzed, one is well on the way to overcoming that crisis.
What is revealed casts new light on what has happened." He
added that crisis leads to a shift in one's perception of things
– to new insights.
Being once a Secretary General of the United Nations, the world
organization is and shall always be the most important innovation
for peace and security in the twentieth century for Mr. Waldheim.
A short closing speech followed the diplomat's well-applauded talk
has been delivered by Mr. Mustafa Jalali, the Executive Director
for Government Affairs for Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Aramco), concluding
his portion of the night's affair with a short documentary film,
showcasing the giant organization as one of the world's most reliable
source of energy.
Guests and delegates alike enjoyed a treat of a sumptuous dinner
buffet afterwards, sponsored by the energy giant.
The 7th Arabian Society for Human Resource Management convention
and exhibition will run until October 8, 2003 with a series of workshops
and presentations to be conducted by experts and authorities in
human resource. (Henri Abenis-Macahilo, DPM News Agency)
