Halliburton technology maximises hydrocarbon recovery
Posted: 7 October 2003
To help operators improve productivity and extend the life of the
well, Halliburton Energy Services has added four technologies to
its suite of production optimisation services -- Reservoir Performance
Monitoring (RPM); DepthStar(TM) Tubing Retrievable Safety Valve;
Relative Permeability Modifier technology; and SilverStim(TM) fracturing
fluid system.
*Reservoir Performance Monitoring (RPM) provides high-reliability,
permanent downhole monitoring solutions focused on optimising production,
maximising reserves and maintaining completions integrity. Halliburton
utilises the latest monitoring technologies, such as fiber optics,
acoustic telemetry, capillary tubing pressure, and multi-phase flow
measurement, along with industry-leading capabilities in downhole
completions, as well as Landmark Graphic's industry standard wellbore
and reservoir performance, visualisation, and interpretation software
to deliver maximum value to the operator.
*DepthStar(TM) Tubing Retrievable Safety Valve is a revolutionary
concept in the realm of surface controlled subsurface safety valves.
Unlike any before it, the DepthStar tubing retrievable valve functions
completely independent of well pressure. Therefore, it is able to
operate at consistently low hydraulic pressures making it an ideal
solution for deepwater completions. The DepthStar valve, through
the use of a magnetic coupler, allows for positioning the hydraulic
actuator completely out of the tubing wellbore. It has long been
the desire of industry, with regards to tubing retrievable safety
valves, to increase metal-to-metal sealing capability while reducing
the overall number of seals. By re-positioning the hydraulic actuator
outside the tubing wellbore, the DepthStar valve becomes the world's
first safety valve that is 100 percent metal-to-metal and contains
no moving seals within the tubing wellbore.
*Relative Permeability Modifier technology is the result of an
ongoing research and development program to help operators control
the production of unwanted water. This technology actually inhibits
the ability of water to flow through the formation rock structure.
In addition, the product has little to no effect on hydrocarbon
flow. The ability to inhibit water flow in the formation makes the
material applicable as a water control agent (H2RedSM service),
a diverting agent for acid treatments (Guidon AGSSM service), and
as an additive for fracturing treatments in which the zone to be
fractured is near a water zone (CW-FracSM service).
*SilverStimSM fracturing service is based on the latest in high
performance fluid technology from Halliburton and results in a step
change in how frac fluids are used and applied in the field. SilverStim
polymer technology greatly improves fracture conductivity compared
to other frac fluid systems developed over the past 7 years. SilverStim
service provides the viscosity needed to place proppant while yielding
higher conductivity than other conventional systems used in the
same conditions. Additionally, as a means to provide our customers
with a comprehensive stimulation package, Halliburton provides SilverStim
as a complete fluid service. Customer need only to consider the
reservoir temperature (currently from 60 degrees Fahrenheit to 300
degrees Fahrenheit), the pumping time for treatment placement and
the method of fluid recovery that customers normally use. The complete
fluid system approach coupled with Halliburton's Gold MedalTM quality
assurance program means the customer receives an optimised fluid
system tailored to well conditions without having to analyze and
validate individual fluid components. "With these and other
products and services, we are committed to providing our customers
with advanced completion solutions, consulting services and high-end
discrete technologies to maximise hydrocarbon recovery," said
Gary Godwin, division vice president, Tools, Testing & Tubing
Conveyed Perforating, Halliburton Energy Services.
