Lucy Switchgear opens new Abu Dhabi office
Posted: 12 October 2003
Lucy Switchgear, a leading UK based manufacturer of electrical
switchgear today announced plans for its Abu Dhabi office consolidating
its commitment to support the Emirate ’s fast-growing power
sector. The company already has offices and manufacturing facilities
in Dubai and in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Lucy Switchgear is participating in this week’s Power-Gen
Middle East exhibition which takes place from 13-15 October 2003
at the Abu Dhabi International Exhibitions Centre (exhibition stand
B11).
“The Lucy Group’s strategy for the Middle East region
is centred on innovation, development and investment, underpinned
by an unerring focus on serving the customer,” said Peter
Lymer, general manager of Lucy Switchgear 's commercial operations
in the region. “We recognise the importance of local service
and the new office marks another milestone in our commitment to
Lucy’s customers in Abu Dhabi. The new office will allow us
to serve the needs of our customers much more effectively, reduce
response time to a minimum and provide local maintenance and technical
services.”
Economic development, increasing industrial capacity and fast population
growth is driving demand for electricity in the Arabian Gulf states.
These states are expected to require an additional 100 gigawatts
of power generation capacity before the year 2020 at a cost of US$150
billion (World Energy Council).
Power requirements for the city of Abu Dhabi alone are expected
to reach 4,500 MW by the year 2010, according to the UAE’s
Ministry of Electricity and Water.
Abu Dhabi’s ambitious privatisation plan for the power sector
was kicked off in 1998 with the establishment of Abu Dhabi Water
and Electricity Authority (ADWEA). 11 companies were then formed
under ADWEA to operate on a commercial basis and to encourage private
sector investment.
“Abu Dhabi is fast becoming a role model for power generation
and the introduction of privatisation to the power sector in the
region,” said Lymer. “The scale of investment and the
pace of change here is impressive and by being here we can work
closely with our Abu Dhabi customers to help them develop real value
and profitable solutions.”
The Lucy Group established Lucy Middle East as a regional office
in Dubai in 1997 in response to the fast growing customer requirements
across the Middle East region and its focus on raising customer
service standards. Lucy Switchgear FZE, was established in Jebel
Ali Free Zone in Dubai during 2000 to produce international standard
electrical systems competitively for the region. Working to the
ISO 9001 quality standard, the plant manufactures equipment and
houses full electrical testing facilities, with the capability to
service, retrofit and customise all Lucy Switchgear equipment, including
commissioning and maintenance.
