Federal National Council builds decisions on Information Management

Ruling Body of UAE depends on Lotus software for information
management, Arabic system will underpin FNC decision making
The Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates has launched
an advanced information management system that is set to build a
true knowledge management capability to underpin decision making
on the part of the country’s governing body.
The solution is built on knowledge management technologies from
IBM, specifically using the advanced information management capabilities
of Lotus Domino, and was implemented by GBM.
“We can safely say that today the Secretariat is able to
obtain any piece of information from our archives within minutes,
as well as to track and monitor the information we hold,”
said HE Mohammed Salem Al Mazroui, Secretary General of the Federal
National Council.
Gulf Business Machines, the sole distributor for IBM products and
services in the Gulf countries for selected products outside Saudi
Arabia, managed the studying, specification and integration of the
solution for the Federal National Council. The system was built
on an extensive business process evaluation carried out by GBM’s
team in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Following the study, GBM developed, tested
and implemented a workflow system and automatic archiving system
based on Lotus Domino software, as well as automating the archive
using Domino.Doc.
“This creates an efficient knowledge management resource
for the Federal National Council to use in its decision making processes,”
said Al Mazroui.
“We’re proud to have been able to integrate this solution.
More than a technology project, this has been a process re-engineering
task which has brought appropriate technology to bear on the needs
of the FNC today and into the future,” said Cesare Cardone,
CEO of GBM. “We are very pleased by the way that the FNC team
has worked together with the GBM team to implement the solution,
and at the positive response to this new way of managing information
within FNC.”
The six-phase project supports the entire document management function
for the Federal National Council, including email, messaging and
managing the Council’s minutes and publishing rulings and
decisions.
“This system uses the advanced capabilities of Lotus Domino
to support a fully web-enabled information management architecture,
in Arabic, with full security features and customised GUI screens
making the system easy to use, yet powerful and highly secure,”
said Samer Shaar, general manager of IBM Middle East, Egypt and
Pakistan. “Such a system is of national importance and needs
to offer rock-solid stability as well as effective information management
capabilities. We’re pleased to say that Lotus achieved all
of this for the team at the Federal National Council.”
