Landmark releases ProMAGIC server

Posted: 28 October 2003

Integration software connects ProMAX and GeoProbe for Rapid Prospect Generation

Landmark Graphics Corporation, a wholly owned business unit of Halliburton, released ProMAGIC(TM) Server, an integration software product that creates a revolutionary interpretive 3-D seismic processing environment.

ProMAGIC Server connects the visualization speed and precision of the GeoProbe(TM) volume interpretation system with the proven processing power of the ProMAX 3D(TM) seismic processing system.

The software was developed in collaboration with BP, a leader in innovative processing and 3-D visualization workflows. ProMAGIC Server enables ProMAX 3D seismic processors to leverage the volume visualization environment of GeoProbe to achieve greater analysis speed, more accurate parameter selection, and more rapid quality control for large data sets than is possible with traditional processing methods.

"Given the size of today's 3-D seismic surveys, the complexity of current exploration plays and reservoir settings, and the drive for reduced project cycle-time, geoscientists need to be more productive," said Andy Lane, president and CEO, Landmark. "Collaboration between processors and interpreters through a common 3-D visualization environment assures higher fidelity seismic data output, greater confidence in seismic interpretations and more rapid prospect generation."

Processing in the ProMAGIC environment offers integration with well information and data derived from other Landmark applications through OpenWorks(TM). Processing parameter selection and quality control in the context of all relevant geological and geophysical data leads to a more accurate seismic data volume. Processors must use the same tools and displays as the end users of the seismic data, otherwise interpreters see detail which is not seen by the processor.

Advanced horizon picking capabilities, similar to those developed for interpreters, increases accuracy and reduces cycle time for historically time consuming and tedious tasks. Picking first-arrival energy for refraction statics analysis or defining an accurate velocity field can be done very quickly.

"The seismic response to complex reservoirs is better understood when large amounts of pre-stack data can be viewed and quickly scanned," said Murray Roth, executive vice president, Systems and Marketing, Landmark. "ProMAGIC enables a geoscientist to scan through large amounts of data and benefit from viewing multiple 3-D data volumes simultaneously increasing processing analysis speed and accuracy."
