Petrofac first gas production from Ohanet Algeria
Posted: 29 October 2003
Petrofac Resources (Ohanet) LLC will soon commence to earn revenue
from the Sonatrach and BHP Billiton operated wet gas development
at Ohanet, Algeria when it reaches full plant production.
Commissioned within schedule and budget, the US$1 billion Ohanet
Development is located in the Illizi province of Algeria, 1300km
southeast of Algiers and 100km west of the Libyan border.
The new facility at peak production will process over 700 million
standard cubic feet per day (MMscf/d) of wet gas, with exports of
30,000 barrels of condensate and approximately 2400 tonnes of liquefied
petroleum gas (20,000 barrels of oil equivalent).
First gas for export began flowing on 27 October 2003.
Under the terms of the Risk Service Contract (RSC), signed in July
2000, Petrofac and its joint venture partners receive a portion
of the liquids production over a target eight to twelve year period.
There is no entitlement by any of the joint venture partners to
the pipeline sales gas, or its associated revenue, which is owned
and marketed by Sonatrach.
Petrofac International Limited also carried out the Engineering
Procurement and Construction contract for the gas processing facilities
at Ohanet in a joint venture with ABB Lummus Global B.V. Ayman Asfari,
Chief Executive Officer of Petrofac Limited, applauded the successful
Petrofac/ABB collaboration which has brought the project to the
production stage 2 months earlier than originally envisaged. “Petrofac’s
50/50 joint venture with ABB Lummus Global B.V. on the surface facilities
EPC contract has proven to be a key success factor in the completion
of this project in a timely manner.”
The Ohanet project has been funded and executed by BHP Billiton
(45 per cent), in joint venture with the Japan Ohanet Oil &
Gas Co., Ltd. (30 per cent), Woodside Energy (Algeria ) Pty. Ltd.
(15 per cent) and Petrofac Resources (Ohanet) LLC (10 per cent).
“The Ohanet Development has been a breakthrough for Petrofac,
being its largest investment and its first major scale combined
service solution provided to the industry”, commented Amjad
Bseisu, President of Petrofac Resources International Ltd, the investment
arm of the Petrofac Group.
