SchlumbergerSema expands real-time energy management agreement with We Energies

Posted: 5 November 2003

Enhanced customer service with utility's deployment of real-time energy management solutions benefits midwestern power and gas consumers

SchlumbergerSema, the information technology (IT) business segment of Schlumberger Limited, today announced it has signed an expansion agreement for Real-Time Energy Management Solutions (RTEMS) with Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based We Energies, a subsidiary of the Wisconsin Energy Corporation.

We Energies serves more than one million electric customers in Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula and more than 980,000 natural gas customers in Wisconsin.

Under the new agreement, SchlumbergerSema will provide real-time automatic meter reading (AMR) services to We Energies for an additional 350,000 electric meters over the next 15 years.

With RTEMS, call center representatives now have access to the last 30 days of customers' daily gas and electric power consumption history, as well as the capability to poll the system for each customer's current meter reading.

The new AMR system from SchlumbergerSema provides We Energies with information to answer customer questions more quickly and effectively on the first call.

This expanded service improves customer relations and reduces costs associated with sending technicians in person to the customer's site to perform routine check reads or investigate trouble.

The service expansion agreement with SchlumbergerSema represents the continuation of a successful project between the two companies. We Energies originally tapped SchlumbergerSema in July 2001 to automate its 650,000 electric and gas meters.

All 650,000 meters will additionally be equipped with the SchlumbergerSema real-time AMR devices, making improved resource/energy management a reality for We Energies' consumers.

"We see the expansion as a testimonial to the superior value that a real-time AMR system can provide for utility customers and shareholders alike," said Mike Zito, general manager, SchlumbergerSema RTEMS business.
